I wonder if the government believes this to be a long term solution or if, in fact, its only a short term solution while they're seen to be doing something until they can fashion something a little more long term?

Short-term = Make Cameron and Obama seem strong before general elections
Long-term = Destabilizing the Middle-east, like is outlined in the video I posted above.
