I think I should watch the Star Wars for the first time.

So, my question is, which movies from the franchise should I absolutely watch, which ones are optional?

The Original Trilogy for sure, and, even better, if you can find the truly original versions in which George Lucas haven't added various features and scenes.
They are, of course, old, but I grew up with them and love them to bits. I can understand if someone, who hasn't watched them before, dislikes them because of the tempo, atmosphere, story or whatever since so many movies since then have tried to do the same thing; Plus, Sci-Fi movies just isn't the same thing anymore (which isn't all bad), but genres change and evolve, sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better.
Give them a shot, my favorit is The Empire Strikes Back with Star Wars being a close second.

To be honest, the reason I want to watch them is, surprisingly, this first video. Remember listening to it like 15 years ago. I think I'll like the story, but not the sci-fi part.

Been a shocking bad year for movies tbh. @Katadunkass .. do you got a list of your favs? I can't think of any. Still have to see "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Widows" which is looking great.

The year has been pretty "meh" imo. Actually, a lot worse than "meh" if I look at my IMDB ratings page which says 2018 is my lowest rated year on average. I've only seen 111 movies from 2018, but on my 2018 list I've seen 148 because some movies doesn't premiere in Denmark until much later like Phantom Thread, Call Me By Your Name and Molly's Game.

If I'm allowed to include these movies my favs. so far this year is, in no particular order:
    Hereditary
    Phantom Thread
    Call Me By Your Name
    Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
    Nelyubov
    First Man
    Wind River

Some movies were better than expected though, which I'm happy about, like:
    Disobedience
    Beast
    Tully
    Columbus
    Searching

There are a lot of movies I haven't seen yet, because they never reach Denmark for some f*cking reason, like:
    Private Life
    The Miseducation of Cameron Post
    Zimna Wojna
    Beautiful Boy
    The Favorite

I'm off to see A Star Is Born tonight, so looking forward to that.

    What about you?

Forgot about Three Billboards indeed. That's a good one, al though it's most likely considered a 2017 movie.

    Thought BlacKKKlansman was pretty OK.
    So was Searching.
    & Annihilation

    Almost there:

    A Quiet Place
    Hereditary
    Under The Silver Lake

    Shit of the shit:

Mission Impossible - Fallout <--- WTF was this shit!
Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom <--- Bryce Dallas Howard was the only thing that kept me awake.
The Predator <--- F*ck me... horrible.

Still have to see First Man though. That could be good.
2019 will have "Glass" in January, so I'm guessing that will be in my list for next year for sure lol.

Don't know if you guys have seen it. It's a dark comedy. Brilliant movie as well, enjoyed the characters very much. Hilarious.

Damn, it's actually not that bad as I'd expected it to be. Of course Bullock isn't the greatest , but she did a decent job here. It was a good watch , with a lot of cliché's and a predictable ending. Saw a lot worse this year.

Pros: Storydriven and unfolding in a normal pace. Good acting. Nice visuals.

Cons: A bit too serious and holding on to its script too tightly. Similar feeling to the "modern"Batman movies compared
to the old. Less charming and more bloody dark serious.

    7/10

Seems to have mixed reviews but I really liked it. The director Drew Goddard did Cabin In The Woods and original Cloverfield which I both loved, so it seems like I enjoy his directing style. I really like the fairly unknown actor Lewis Pullman and also British actor Cynithia Erivo, who is also unknown. Anyway, I recommend watching it. 7.9/10
