Uhm, well just recently I watched The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which is a movie from 1948 as you know, but I've also watched Citizen Kane (1941) and Casablanca (1942), among others. Don't think I've watched a movie older than Citizen Kane though.

    I have two to recommend:
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) - a very good romantic drama about a man battling his inner demons

The other one is one of my all time favorite movies:
La passion de Jeanne d'Arc (1928) - Maria Falconetti's only role, but somehow her portrayal of Jeanne d'Arc is still one of the strongest female perfomances ever recorded. It can be tricky to find, but if you do, make sure you get the copy with the original music alongside it.

Thanks for the recommendations! Certainly out of my comfort zone, it will take some getting used to. The first one sounds really interesting. Will make sure to watch them both during the holidays.

So far my favorite movie, by a pretty big mile, is Apollo 11.

@Katadunkass how did you get used to silent movies? Watched the first 20 minutes of Sunrise and can't seem to go on. Just seems...unnatural. I would probably appreciate the story, just not in this setup.

Oh it's definitely not for everyone! I watched a couple before Sunrise and those I had to power through. I still wouldn't say it's for me, I've only watched a couple I could get through and enjoy.

The best thing I can do is to completely remove anything, which could disrupt me one way or another. I usually also go for silent movies which aren't much longer than an hour and 20 minutes or so.

To be fair I've only watched one silent movie which I think is absolutely necessary for any movie-lover and that's The Passion of Jeanne d'Arc.

My guess is, as with almost everything, it takes some getting used to. My problem, aside from the fact that there's no voice, is the over-emphasized (over-) acting to compensate. To be honest, there have been some good closeups so far, where there was just one face on the whole screen, and the actors showed their emotions (IMO) properly. But besides that, everything else, even coming down to the simple act of walking, which is as simple and as natural as anything on this planet could be, is just badly acted. I also feel that, with dialogue/voice, the movie could've been 45 minutes long. But you can't blame anyone for that.

I'll see if I can continue watching it tomorrow and stick till the end.

    ---

Oh, and BTW, Apollo 11 is great! Enjoyed it thoroughly. Was never as impressed at the challenge and the achievement as I am now.

    Conspiracy (2001)

A movie about the Wannsee Conference. The movie is set in one house (mostly in one room), so it's all discussion, seemingly like all other meetings. What's really scary is how casually they discussed The Final Solution, how they were not represented as some evil villains, but rather regular people with opinions, disagreements, sense of superiority...how purely administrative it all was (to them).

Gagi, another really good old movie, is 12 Angry Men. Really makes you think.

Great classic movie - one of the few 10/10 ratings I've given on IMDB

Was looking for a light horror movie minus the jumpscare, an article brought me to this. It's like The Belko Experiment meets The Purge meets comedy. Overall a fun movie... and Samara Weaver

I love these kind of trapped-in-a-building movie.

So, that was quite a disappointment. Visual it looked great, and liked the soundtrack a lot. Still the acting was bad and story wise it's going no where. Had high hopes for it, but left with a bitter taste.
