with techy-groovy trance does he mean early 90's inspired trance like what Dance 2 Trance, Art of Trance and a few others produce(d)?

No, I'm 99% sure he means stuff like what outburst releases.

no, pop music is all about using the most simple melodic formula and just attaching it to the "sounds" that are modern.

i heavily doubt 90s trance sound would ever be considered cool anymore.
2016 TOP 5 (updated in July)
    1. Aymon - Sopor
    2. Avenue One feat. Fenja - Call of Summer (Suncatcher Remix)
    3. M.I.K.E. Push - Estivate
    4. The Noble Six - Oddworld
    5. Aurosonic - They Wait For Us (Progressive Remix)

Far be it from me to decide what's 'cool' etc, but hasn't the likes of Zombie Nation been recently used in major mainstream pop sampling?

I personally think that big room is today's equivalent of eurodance.

I think certain trends from older styles comes back after some time but I don't believe that any style returns exactly like it was back in the days. So I don't wait big beat or dutch trance to make huge return or at least those styles won't be the same as they were 20 years ago.

Love this question/theory of whether or not these cylical patterns exist within music.

It happens to an extent in fashion, as you see old styles re-emerge in popular culture, but to me they are never a true copy of what came before but more a modernised imitiation that rises for a short time.

Calling this a circle is wrong becuase it implies that the exact same thing comes back around and this will happen infinitely. It's more of a growing spiral, with the outer line sharing similiarities with the parallel that lies underneath it....if that makes sense!

Alot of modern "bigroom" is quite heavily also influenced (or copies) 00s club music like this:

put in a bit more powerful bassline, reduce tempo to 128 and you get this

Definitely. The only difference is that those artists would perform in small pubs and discotheques in countries that they were popular. Which was probably just the few in Europe. But that was it. Now, the same caliber-artists get the biggest stages earning millions.

Perhaps, but even big room is lacking essential qualities that make eurodance be eurodance.
Big room is too serious and tries too hard to sound epic/badass. In contrast, Eurodance is just silly dance music.
