    Is good pop music dead?

The melodic,uplifting,feel-good,moving kind. Not the oversimplistic annoying modern kind which really isn't moving or melodic.

This is good pop music. RIP.

yes, even though i dont really like pop music. pop music from the 80 and 90's is light years better than shit over the last 10-15 years. pop now a days is very cheesy and commercialized. it wasnt like that before.

Of course not, in recent years ive enjoyed alot more pop songs than previously.

All very cool uplifting melodic and smooth listening tracks. Infact i think pop music has never really been as good for me as it is now. Maybe only when trance was pretty much pop music in early 00s with likes of ATB/PvD and others.

Deader than dead. For every 1000 'pop' tracks, there is maybe one passable track... that might even be too generous. Tep none of those tracks you posted are even really pop, they are just commercialised or weakest versions of other genres around. In this case Coldplay is just a soft rock song track (ok...its not that bad)...the others are just commercial dance music/edm/house shite. Pop before had its own identity, not just the dumbing down of genres already out there.

rofl pop music - POPULAR music. Popular music of today is heavily influenced by edm surely and i love it.
but hey, one thing ive found out is that it is impossible to argue with the angry music snobs on forums, so go ahead and whine and feel negative about absolutely everything.

I'm with @tep here. I find myself enjoying a lot more pop recently than 3-4 years ago.

A few years ago too many pop songs had those generic trouse influenced melodies or were just 'drop EDM', which I really didn't like. However in recent times there are a lot of, as tep said, smooth melodic tracks out there and it seems there is a lot more focus on melodicness, positive vibes etc.

It would probably be more fitting to call this thread “Is Pop Music (that Daysleeper considers to be good) Dead?” because we all know in reality that it’s not.

Pop music is a genre, if you can call it one, that has become more and more expansive throughout the years, with new genres inadvertently assigning to it on a weekly basis. Realistically, given pop music's actual definition as @tep pointed out, anything that enjoys mainstream success falls into the 'pop music' bracket. Musical evolution now makes it nigh on impossible to define pop music as a singular sound-set.

@AustralianGQ, I hope you wrote your comment with a wry smile upon your face because the 80 and 90's are probably the cheesiest and most commercialised era of pop music music ever. You don't see festivals dominated by pop acts, magazines on shelfs, posters on children's walls, or fashion trends set by pop acts anymore so to say it's now more commercial is laughable.

Tep thinks you are a snob if you dont agree with him or if you claim some music has certain qualities that is objectively superior to other music. In this case more well composed and rich harmonic and melodic compositions.
