    Trance is really coming back?

It looks like a promising year for trance music. Sander van Doorn, W&W and others are coming back with trance projects. Festivals are growing and the whole bigroom thing is fading away.

But I'm wondering: will trance be again as it was in the early - late 2000's era?
And also: is just trance? Because it seems that techno has a strong comeback either.

Hmmmm we've had this discussion many times on this forum, It's always hard to say again what this year or the next will hold. Although remember that you'll find that some people think Trance is doing just fine, so opinions will always vary it seems.

I'ts true that lots of artists are coming back to Trance, which is good, but for me we are still so far off the pinnacle of what the genre has achieved that I am not that optimistic. However nothing stays the same forever and if people keep supporting and making Trance and the culture doesn't die then by the laws of time something has gotta to start picking up!

You can't resurrect the past, so don't try. If anything, I hope that whatever comes out of the EDM bubble popping is artists that are true to themselves, whether that be trance or anything.

I'd like to hear those tracks which support your claims.
Sander van Doorn did create a trancey, James Holden-esque track... back in October 2016.

    (47:28)

    Sadly, it has remained unreleased.

For what it's worth, there is no indication that W&W is producing trance at all.

This got 102 likes on Fb when joof were speaking of Emery.

Its only in a healthy place when all the guys meet in the middle. The last couple of years has just been about competing about which sound is more "pure" and the actual musicality that was attached to trance in the past has gone away. I want the "middleground" sound back.

You can forget about trying to bring the past back. or trying to bring the community back together because it's not going to work These people don't care about the past and just get on with the time. Most artists that claim to 'return to trance' are just doing it out of marketing reasons. Like, hey look at me, I still exists.

Not gone, but changed dramatically. How many tracks have you rated very highly from the last 3 years and then compare that to how many you rate highly from any year between 95-2005. For me its astonishing the difference. Would be surprised if this is no the case for you too.

Of course i cannot say there are as many highly rated tracks coming out now. Many reasons why it is so, but you cannot expect grounbreaking stuff from 20 year old genre really. Same with everything in music. I rate much higher the original eurodance tracks that came out in early 90s vs late 90s, i also enjoy earlier dnb alot more than the stuff that gets released now and so on.
If music genre is developing and fresh it is obvious it will have more outstanding ideas vs style being 20 years old. You just run out of ideas to be fresh, original and copying the same formula will become massively boring. And genre becomes boring, less popular and audiences move elsewhere, they get forgotten and then couple of generations later will pop up again.

For example look how popular Daft Punk/Bruno Mars style disco is. That style was popular in 70s and early 80s and is now enjoying once again popularity. I fully believe 90s eurodance making a comeback soon and in some form (tropical house) it is already doing it.

It is in nature of people to hear new stuff, unless you are old. If you are old u only cry how everything was better in your youth are get stuck in listening to whatever was popular in your youth.

Mainstream as in becoming the main thing in edm? No way
Mainstream as in some former producers producing it again? Sure, they have been doing it anyways. Ferry Corsten for example.
Trance is quite alive in big countries where there is enough audience for secondary styles and i do not see why it should disappear, but trance as a style is obsolete for modern youth. They view it as style their dads/moms liked, hence it is the most uncool thing ever.

Quite a lot. Theres always 10 or so very good tracks a year that csn compare to anything else in the past...some years have more, some have less. The quality of the best tracks has never decreased imo - thats why i laugh when i see this thread title.

I don't know how things are in Estonia, but trust me, in the rest of the world things are different. And, speaking for myself, I'm 26. And I don't see old people at trance parties.
