Speaking of Darude - Sandstorm this is his interview and JS16 on Vice about the famous track that influenced a lot of people.

Ah I also wanted to post this. Really great video isn't it

Fun to see the guy really doesn't care and knows very well he owes it all to this track. He also is capable of laughing together with others at the jokes about the track. Really healthy state of mind.

Would love to see more of this type of interviews about other big hits. Would be fun to see what Tiesto has to say about tracks like Flight 643, Lethal Industry, Suburban Train.

That's Darude for you. Deadmau5 did a coffee run with him a couple years back, and Darude seemed genuinely stunned when Joel told him that Sandstorm introduced electronic dance music to mainstream US audiences.

It was an ingenious hit record that even my dad liked at the time - but to me it was always a 'gimmicky' kind of thing and didnt refelct Trance properly at that time - in that era you have proper classics being made. If people asked me what music i liked and i replied 'Trance' they might say after 'oh like Darude?' ..id be embarrassed to say yes. I would rather say 'no,like the Ferry remix of Adagio'.

Sandstorm is never a track ive played in a set,or at home - but i recognise the skills behind making such a catchy record.

For years it's been the only trance track that you'd hear in clubs here, always played near the end of the night - either the original, some sort of a mashup or a track that's just a copy (mainly of that acid line).

I don't really take it seriously as a track, probably because it's a bit more fun than I'm accustomed to. Never even liked it. That it might be catchy to some people I can understand. But there's a fine line between catchiness and deeper/serious musical content. There's nothing wrong with either of them, I just prefer the latter.

Cool guy, though. Should shave that chin strip off. He doesn't have a red mohawk anymore, for god's sake.

Its not dated at all to me.

I prefer Feel The Beat over Sandstorm though.

Still, does anyone know those chords? It feels like they are in some track.

Also is anyone using that synth in nowadays trance?

The 'slow' part in Feel The Beat is great. It makes it almost better than Sandstorm.
I feel like Feel The Beat does lack a bit of a melodic climax... that's why Sandstorm wins for me

    Sandstorm is melodically perfect.

Doesn't sound dated to me, just it doesn't even feel like music anymore as its been played so much and was incredibly gimmicky from the get go. I still think its a good track, but just can never listen to it again.

That's a terrible mashup it does no justice to both great tracks.
