    Trancefix - 2017 Trance - Elimination Tournament (Round 1)

I might as well put this together myself. Taking Daysleeper's elimination knockout formula for the most popular releases here in 2017.

I got about +50 releases picked with the criteria:
    - 15 or more replies
    - mostly positive replies
    - no albums (we can do that later)
    - no reworks/remixes of classics
    - no IDs/unreleased, no demos, must be signed to a label
    - has to be mostly trance

To speed things up, each round has only 6 tracks with 6 points.

    RULES:

    1. Each track starts with 6 points.

    2. You can vote only once per day, or when at least 3 others have voted

    3. When you vote, you must add 1 point to a particular track and subtract 2 points from one track or split the 2 points between 2 tracks. Copy the whole list from the previous poster.

Sudden Death - After we're left with the last two songs, the one with most points is declared a winner if there's a 48 hour (give or take) period without points given.

    ROUND 1:

Winner: Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix)

    2nd: Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape
    3rd: Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins
    4th: DIM3NSION - Voorpret
5th: Bryan Kearney & Plumb - All Over Again

I'll start to get this going..

Bryan Kearney & Plumb - All Over Again - 6
Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 7 (+1)
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 6
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 4 (-2)
    DIM3NSION - Voorpret - 6
Alex Di Stefano - My Shadow - 6

+ for Lonely Soldier, sounds unique & classy, calm & atmospheric mood, very well produced
    - for Origins, somehow sounds a bit flat and uninspiring, term "vst trance" fits here, melody could be better.

    Bryan Kearney & Plumb - All Over Again - 4 (-2)
Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 7
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 6
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 4
    DIM3NSION - Voorpret - 7 (+1)
Alex Di Stefano - My Shadow - 6

Voorpret - what a melody. Technically not the best track out of all these, but the melody is pure bliss; it's captured the euphoric 90s vibes perfectly.

All Over Again - pure cheese. Somehow people are creaming themselves over this track (esp. on Reddit) when it's honestly more cringe-worthy than every single track Above & Beyond have produced (and whom they like bashing for not being trance). Seriously overrated, down-voted.

    Bryan Kearney & Plumb - All Over Again - 3 (-1)
Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 7
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 6

    DIM3NSION - Voorpret - 6 (-1)
    Alex Di Stefano - My Shadow - 7 (+1)

I prefer Instrumental versions or tracks without vocals, exceptions excluded.
(chops are fine sometimes) I do not like the melody with 'Voorpret' and find the, I do not know what it is called, dragging sound after the beat, to be pretty annoying.

I love the melody of 'My Shadow'. And those rolling beats really make my feet tap

Dimensions is pure rubbish, I'm amazed that so many like his music. Alex di Stefano has released three absolute brilliant tracks in 12 months, My Shadow is amazing.

Oops didn’t realize that ”My Shadow” was released this year, maybe we should remove it. You guys wanna give those points elsewhere?

    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 7 (+1)
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 4

Yeah let's drop it, sorry about that..

    Bryan Kearney & Plumb - All Over Again - 0 (-1)
Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 8 (+1)
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 7
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 3 (-1)
    DIM3NSION - Voorpret - 4

All Over Again eliminated! Like said before, it's cheese, nothing I would ever listen to despite the fairly good production values. I'll also have to take 1 from North Cape again, as it's just not up to the rest. It's missing production values, it's sounds messy and it offers nothing to me musically. I do like all the rest The Lonely Soldier, North Cape and even Voorpret (even if it's a little cheesy too), but I'll have to grant Lonely Soldier another plus based on the clear production and good melody.

Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 9 (+1)
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 7
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 3
    DIM3NSION - Voorpret - 2 (-2)

Well, since Stefano has been cancelled haha, this will be my future favorite, simply because I like the melody the most. I do have a sweet spot for Stoneface & Terminal, but this release is not their best. Still somewhat better than 'Origins'. I do not like 'Voorpret' as I described earlier.

Factor B & Noble Six are the definition of mediocre. Minus one. I’ve always thought Stoneface & Terminal had something lacking in their sound - North Cape is a decent track on paper, but it just doesn’t sound gratifying enough. The Solarstone remix is alright, far from his best track in the past year, but still voted for it because in my opinion he’s the only one capable of switching and adjusting his sounds over the past few years without constantly repeating himself, all the while keeping it melodic and still very distinctly Solarstone.

Let's keep this going so we can get to round 2!

I don't want to eliminate "Origins" all by myself, so..

Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 11 (+1)
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 5 (-1)
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 2
    DIM3NSION - Voorpret - 1 (-1)

Couple of words about North Cape, I think it's a good track no doubt! This modern psyish kick that seems to be the new norm, might divide some opinions, but atleast it pushes through nicely and keeps it clean. The bass line is basically a copy of Aalto - 5, although I did prefer it's a bit softer sound more, this is a bit more metallic and dubsteppy.
The glidemain lead also sounds a bit plasticy, I don't know if it's synth, the synthesis, the width, the digital effects or the openness of the filter cutoff, but a better sound would make this a lot more appealing. The track is very full and loud all the time, I don't know if it's the compression or the arrangement, but it's a bit tiresome to listen. And I think this track is way too fast too, stylistically this would sound great at 125-130bpm range, but now it's somewhere in 135-140 range. So all in all, a track that has some unique features, and doesn't sound exactly like every other track released these days, but there are lots of minor complaints that keep this from being a hit for me.

Eco - The Lonely Soldier (Solarstone Extended Pure Mix) - 10 (-1)
    Stoneface & Terminal - North Cape - 5 (-1)
    Factor B & The Noble Six - Origins - 3 (+1)

Lonely solider is terrible. Disney melody deluxe. Cheese. Nort cape is a blatant copy of 5. Voorpret is washed out ferry /99 styled trance in boring sterile costume.

My vote goes to Origins. But thats still just a 6-10 track.

I hope you're not implying that there's something wrong with disney melodies

I personally get movie soundtrack vibes of it (not necessarily disney), it might be slightly cheese, but it's not cheese in the sense of cheap over the top happy generic pop chord progression with stupid vocals. I think this gives it that uniqueness and character that we seem to call for. It's no means among my favorite tracks of 2017, but I think it's best out of these.
    Thanks for your input btw!
