Listened to the leaked album, it really feels like the Key4050 release. There's some interesting stuff in there but it sounds disjointed, at least Key4050's was mostly interesting even if a bit repetitive. The first half has softer melodies, that sound sorta modular too, the second half is harder, with a shade of techno, that is until the 303 becomes repetitive as hell and it starts looking like they're copy pasting everything.

Io and Valetudo are pretty nice, Io sounds closer to actual Trance and maybe what the album should have been.

Listened. Lots of 70s influencies: Jarre, Space and Kraftwerk the most, with a few minimal and tech influencies. I really have no clue what they were trying to accomplish, most of the tracks lack depth and get easily forgettable. I really liked only Jupiter LXXI and Carpo. Is this the new Gaia? I hope not, this sounds like an experiment which was released as Gaia to lure attention. This is more like a minimal brother of Key4050 project (which is clearly superior by far).

I'm still waiting for a Gaia track able to surpass 4 Elements and Tuvan, i hope to hear it before i'm done for good.

At first impression, tis album sounds great. You can hear it's written in a way different formula than standard pop-dancefloor tracks and I'm happy to hear this. It's 21 tracks, I'm not sure if that's really a bite-sized-chunk of an album, but it's a beautiful journey for sure. And I love the journey.

Had to check Key4050 after all the 4050 comments, but aside of the interesting combo of Kearney and JOC, the 4050 tracks are more generic than Moons of Jupiter imho.

As long as you are waiting to get surprised, you won't get surprised... ;-)

This album is something else. For one, its an "album", a real journey with each piece connecting to the next absolutely seamlessly while crafting a 21 track voyage.

It would've been supremely easy for Armin and Benno to write 8-9 singles, add "Crossfire", "Saint Vitus" and a few more recent Gaia tracks and pass it off as an album. This is not that at all, it is inspired, passionate as well beautifully crafted.

I do understand why people are cheesed off as this project is under the Gaia guise, a project linked to trancier sounds but as an album, ignoring the Gaia name, this is one of the best albums in a while. Many of the tracks do have that Gaia sound but what I love about this is that it is unexpected and hence positively surprises me. The music has a soul.

Also, should've perhaps seen it coming a bit as every time anyone has asked Armin about the Gaia album, he has always said that he wants to explore the deeper and darker sounds with it. Well done!

Well said. Unlike conventional albums where you can listen to individual tracks, this album is meant to be listened in one continuous session. This is why most of the songs (with exceptions of some like IO) are weak when listened to on their own. I don't understand the comparisons to key4050 because as far as I know, that album is made up of individual tracks while Moons of Jupiter is a continuous mix. They only thing they have in common is the large number of tracks in the album.

That being said, I wished some of the ideas were better developed.

I see this is released as GAIA, in stead of Armin presents Gaia. Now that's interesting. I like the artwork. Not a "cool" 40 year old man trying to pose for a camera, but just something simple that adds to the feeling of 'mystery'.

The first tracks are all one big intro. Not sure why they are split actually. They could be merged into one opening track. But I guess there are so many moons, that they needed more tracks.

Let's talk about numbers for a bit:
Who would have thought Armin's much talked about 'Gaia' album would have it's first 5 tracks without any straight 4/4 beat? When track 6 comes up with straight 4/4 beat, it's only 115 bpm. To show you the progress, here is the rest of it: Track 7 = 120. Track 8 = 123. Track 9+10+11 = 126. Track 12+13+14+15+16+17 = 130. Track 18 = 132. Track 19+20 = 127. Track 21 = no beat.

Well that's it for the bpm's (on the mixed version). I don't wanna judge the music based on it. But perhaps for some people it says a lot that there are no 135 bpm melodic 'Tuvans', let alone 140 bpm classic '4 elements' on it. No, there are not.

I must say it's a bit weird. On the one hand, I wanna say Yeah, there are some interesting things on this one. It's very atmospheric. It sounds rich and full. Very non-Armin music. It lacks techno though. That word has been used for a bit for this album. But I don't find it techno. It's too soft. More like deep-trance. Or 'progressive trance'. Anyway, it can't be denied that Armin and Benno surprised us with this lengthy building musical journey, rather than putting on the Gaia hits with a couple of new ones. I think some tracks would benefit from a more aggressive techno approach, but oh well.

But would I find it equally interesting if this was made by let's say Estiva? Would I skip it more quickly saying "pretty, well made, but I don't care about it", and then never look back on it?

I don't know yet. This is great music for when I'm working. No vocals, deep, well produced. I'm sure I will put this on.

But at home? I actually think I will hardly ever put this on.

It captures the atmosphere they were after very well in my opinion. It really feels like a space trip. Really nice soundscapes and good flow throughout.

Nothing really stands out, which I believe is exactly they wanted to achieve. One album journey.

This album is really great. On a moment when I had zero expectations from Armin van Buuren, this album surprises with quality music and a mix which works only listened in one go. Regardless wether Benno made it solely or Armin really participated, it reminds me of my latest album discoveries of L.S.G.'s Into Deep and Rendezvous in Outer Space.

Could be an album of the year for me.

Haven't listened to this yet, will do eventually but not sure why it would be compared to the Key 4050 album which was one of the biggest disappointments in Trance imo.

On the album itself, finding it quite refreshing from Armin to have an album that actually sounds like it was made with passion .
