Mike Saint-Jules - Parachuting (Club Mix) [Pure Progressive]

    Beatport: 30.11.2018 | Everywhere: 14.12.2018 | PTP065

Featured on Pure Trance V7 under Kristina Sky's disc

A man of several musical personalities, New York's Mike Saint-Jules currently has something of a flare for this emerging spacious and gentle sound. Delving down even deeper than his famed 'Interstellar' mixes (which are themselves a step back from his main output) Parachuting is a lesson in how to take things deep without sacrificing musical beauty for beard-stroking self-indulgent studio noodling. Inventive percussion and a nicely executed bass line lay the foundation upon which diminished chords, hypnotic drones and intelligent sound-design are assembled. An unusual 3/4-arpeggiator sequence really sucks the listener in, paving the way for the lushest of lush choir & muted keys layered breakdowns - where we are lucky enough to be treated to some Balearic rolling breaks. A veritable audible feast.

A different approach and its good i would say, just not sure I really am down for those "
    3/4-arpeggiator sequence".

Not a fan of this really. The different elements / sounds just don't mesh together naturally. Kinda awkward and clumsy at times.

I do like it quite a bit! I really don't hear the awkwardness, although maybe some of the synths are a bit noisy and compressed and a more dynamic / organic approach in sounds would have worked better. However stylistically this reminds me a lot of that 2005-2007 era "progressive" trance sound ala Global Dj Broadcast/Markus Schulz, Mark Otten. Especially when compared to most tracks these days, there's a nice softer and calmer edge to the track and it has a prevalent vintage groovy (semi-techy even) percussion moving the track forward. And the lead melody is just beautiful!

I like the diversity of opinions here. That's what the forum should be about. More about the music, less on the trivial gossip on the artists' lives.

Now this is good progressive! Chilled vibes, interesting things with chords, and more unique things done with arrangement and sound design. And for MSJ this is the best I've heard from him since Vespera (though I haven't heard too much of his stuff tbh).

He is something I always wanted to listen back, especial piano breakdown at "23 Years", last year. Love this song.

I like it. And while it's not the best track ever, it's still nice and enjoyable.
