Mental Health of DJs and Producers

It's no given that these people push themselves to the absolute edge and lose their own identity and well start acting strange. I guess this is why the Trance scene is lacking melodic/happy trance. There is a lack of beauty in Trance. It either sounds deep and dark or it sounds dull and boring. There is no sense of euphoria which leads me suggest that there is something wrong mentally with these artists. They are either worn out from all the touring or the fact is that the system require them to keep pumping out like part of an assembly factory.

Something needs to be done about this because I fell into this trap before but managed to pull myself out before any long term damage could be done.

I guess awareness is the only key so that they look after themselves because they forget about what's really important.
They go out of their way to bring people happiness without looking at themselves.

Finally a thread for this. Let's not pollute the music threads anymore, ok?

That said, I do think that mental health is important and yet undervalued in the music industry. Just look at ODs, substance abuse, suicides...

But on the other hand, it might not be the way you're writing it. Some just want to DJ and don't care how they get there. It's where the money is at. I'd worry more about people that care about the music. They are the ones going through struggles more.

Sometimes I really wanna discuss mental health issues in the music industry...until you reply and quote me a bunch of times with your theories. If you sometimes used facts rather than your own projections and feelings, maybe that would change. Not just for me, but for everyone else here. For the next post, you'll probably use the victim card and say how caring is a crime or something.

That's a very respectful way to talk to people who you want to discuss sensitive subjects with for sure. You need an attitude check my man.

Your story’s are too vague. If you want to be heard, dont be so mysterious. If you hide information, how can we ever have emphaty for you? What sickness do you have? Who are you anyway? What is you goal, as we already like trance too? Armin knows you? If Armin ‘knows’ you, why dont you just call him, send a whatsapp message, in stead of a forum?

Thank for you bringing this issue to light. No doubt there are many artists suffering from depression due to the high stress nature of their work.

I have a suggestion: when we come across songs that are not melodic/happy, we should consider if the artist is suffering from depression. We can help by posting suicide hotline links in the youtube comments.

Double, triple posting with utter drivel instead of a coherent discussion, wow. This could be an interesting subject to discuss, were you not spamming conspiracies and... completely unrelated things.

DO not mess with me when it comes to science and music.
Nobody is messing with you. The thing is, this would be something interesting to discuss... if it weren't for all the unrelated things/out of context quoting. Mock them all you want, but the three people you quoted have valid points, whether you like it or not. If people are unwilling to discuss the matter, well, just look at the post, it is a mess.

On-topic, it's difficult sometimes to take care of yourself when you're so busy doing so much stuff. May sound weird, but it happens.

I only brought up to look after the artist I love because they are overdoing it and you don't think that Armin looks sick to you? I know he looks sick to me and so does Ferry but I am just telling them to go to the dentist/orthodontist to get checked out.

but people are oblivious like always.
I am no expert, and no offence, but this appears to be a mental illness.

Not playing trance does no mean that he has a sickness. He is probably tired of it or wants to switch to different styles. He likes to make pop songs now and passion projects like the Gaia album.

If you have been making the same music genre for 20 years, it is a bad thing to be sick of it? Is it bad for wanting to switch to other music styles?

It seems like you are projecting yourself onto him. "Moons of Jupiter" is clearly a passion project and something he has always wanted to do. He said so himself, it is a homage to the childhood legends like Jean Michel Jarre that he grew up listening with. Unlike his usual pop songs which made to appeal to the audience, this album is made solely to satisfy his own desire. It isn't made for his audience, it is made for himself. 90% of the current ASOT listeners would find the songs weird.

Just because the songs doesn't sound like what you want it to be doesn't mean that the artist is suffering from depression. If this were true, than a majority of the songs you hear nowadays are made by depressed artists, because "There is no drive or spark of creativity in the album. It sounds tired/dull and boring and most importantly, it has no love in it." sure as hell applies to them.

Please tell me this wasnt a serious statement...wtf.

I think its true theres an air of 'eccentricity' to an artist of any field...to be creative it takes something extra than just doing a normal 9 to 5 job. And yes there must be so many psychological effects amongst producers...its a deep subject.
