Jan Johnston - Flesh 2019 [Solar Storm]

    All Stores: 2nd August 2019 | SLST005
DL/Listen: Beatport, Spotify, Deezer, Juno, iTunes, Apple Music

    01. Genix Remix

    02. Simon McCann Remix

    03. Orkidea Remix — Made in 1999, now released officially this year

    04. Paul Hawcroft Remix

Also includes new remix from Chris Salt (track #5, 7:36), also remastered Main Version (track #6, 8:06) and the real, never-existed Original Mix (track #7, 7:22), but no samples embedded however.

Following up from our labels very first release Jan Johnston is again giving us something old (and classic) and something new. One of the biggest trance tracks from the early 2000s was "Flesh". The Tiesto mix in particular capturing the sound of the moment and filling many a compilation CD. Jan is back now with new versions of this classic song.

First up we head to the UK for tech-trance meister Genix. His mix strips back the melody adds in some dirty-fat synth and room-swelling drums to the backing while still providing not one but two massive moments... Jan's famous vocal and one gigantic riff. Armada favourite Simon McCann is next with his big room trance workout. This one is all about pace, riffs and forward momentum. Next up we take a trip back to 2003 and the present an un-earthed jewel in the form of the Orkidea remix. Acid lines, pace and 4-4 are the order of the day from the Finnish star.

UK based Paul Hawcroft is next with his progressive wonder stroke remix. Fellow brit Chris Salt is next marking his recent return to the scene with a fine low-slung and dark brooder. To round off the EP the main version gives us the sound we are all familiar with. Quite unbelievably the "original" version of Flesh has never seen the light before. So far it has all been remixes... So - here for the first time - the original brings it in, stomping home.

Stay tuned for more from Jan Johnston including the release of her "Emerging" album.

No idea who asked for this. It's not like anything comes close to the Tiesto remix.
And I find the Genix remix an insult to the original version.

The unreleased remix from 99 is great, as expected from Orkidea back then.

Hate it when they try and bring old classic vocal trancers back like this - just leave it at the Tiesto remix, which is the definitive version imo. A quick cheap cash-in springs to mind.

I'm not sure the remixers here will earn anything either.

Doubt they'd put in so much effort for like 5 dollars. They probably, as you, want the classic to be in the style that they love (or know how to make). And they probably want to increase their popularity/fanbase as well.

Isn't 'chilled trance' basically downtempo? I mean Genix did a trouse remix of a Jan Johnston track which is probably a first, you could argue that's a unique take on a classic trance track! Whether one likes it or not is beside the point ;p
