Paul Van Dyk & Elated - Parallel Dimension [Vandit]

Raising the curtain, not just on a new season, but Mission: Guiding Light - the advance guard tour for his hotly-anticipated 2020 LP - Paul van Dyk serves that trance justice again. Following in the wake of 'Galaxy' - September's Vini Vici-collab'ing walk on the psy-side, 'The Drift' swings back around to that instantaneously identifiable, classically floor-igniting PvD sonic. For the track, Paul's been joined at the mixing desk by a producer who may be a new name to some. Graeme 'Elated' Knapp arrived on trance's reservation a couple of years back and amongst the in-the-know-ers, built a swift reputation for himself. A number of his early releases found their way to Paul's ears and after some positive-noise-type feedback, the Canadian reached out. What they've collectively worked up is an a sci-fi-centric trance thunderbolt, which places clubbers heartstrings square between the crosshairs, whilst simultaneously planting their feet on the floor. With a no-prisoners tempo, hallmark PvD bass, from-within chords, awww-inspiring sub-melodies and kiss-the-heavens mainline, 'The Drift's got the atmospheric lot. Heralding 'Guiding Light' - your first taste of what the album holds drops today

This is a better sounding collab than almost all the ones on his previous two albums. There are more oldschool elements, like the classic high hat, the baseline is a bit more subdued but it still has the known kick. Those flanged acid lines also remind me of early PVD. And for once an arrangement that is not just your standard intro, break, climax, outro

I guess this is toty for me.

This is the true pvd sound. What a tune. Those small effects that fades in and out aswell. Sorry to say it but this is pure trance. Giuseppe has been good but nothing od his recent stuff hasn't resonated with me like this. This doesnt have any stupid moderd edm snares or over the top basslines etc. Just that classic flowing sound.

Ok for me, but I've heard better tracks this year. I prefer the new Sam Mitcham track.

I think the opposite. This has better replay value and more distinct reasonating sound/melody.

This is really nice indeed. One of the best tunes this year for sure.

Over the last few months ive heard some top producers/connections in the scene tell me that PvD has always used a ghost producer, and never made tracks on his own - hence why youve never seen him in the studio producing in a video.

This really surprised me,as throughout the year on various forums this was never mentioned - but to my understanding he is similar to Tiesto,as more a 'brand' with a team of ghost behind him. Even tracks like Flaming June were his ghost producer and BT.

This is really disappointing if true - does anyone else have some inside knowledge on this?

I would be flabbergasted if someone like Paul managed to do 29 years of music production with a ghost team without anyone finding out any details. Paul in the late 90s was the trance GOD, similar to how Tiesto was 2-3 years later, yet we found out quite fast about Tiesto. Does Paul use an engineer and is taking influences from younger producers over the past 5-10 years. Absolutely. Paul has also been open about how BT was a big source of knowledge for him in the years they worked together. BT, who I might add, was also accused of being ghosted in the recent past.

Until I see some tangible proof I call this bullshit

As i said,id be very surprised and shocked as i was a massive fan of his sound in the late 90's - but id like to know if its true one way or the other!! The sources that have told me the same thing are very well known producers or connections in the scene. But it is true we have never seen him produce in a studio on his own - unlike archive vids of Armin or Ferry for example.
