Super-frog Saves Tokyo - Kyoto (Extended Mix) [Pure Trance Recordings]

This is something very special and possibly unique. Written & produced by multi-instrumentalist and modular-synth wizard David Harrison who recently collaborated with Solarstone on the ‘Frontier’ EP for Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ian Urbina as part of the Outlaw Ocean Music project. ‘Kyoto’ is possibly the ‘purest’ trance track we’ve ever released and one that stands upon the shoulders of some of the electronic music scene’s earliest pioneers. Wholly original in its composition, the instrumentation is largely forged from David’s extensive modular synth rack. The arrangement makes use of hypnotic polyrhythmic elements, 808 percussion, a raft of classic hardware and co-production by Solarstone lends ‘Kyoto’ a highly polished glean.

Haha strange artist name name, but pretty nice track. It reads that its the same artist who worked with Solarstone on the Frontier EP, which was excellent. Would have like maybe a little less of a choatic feeling with all those hats and marching drums, the simple melody really works for me

I think it's absolutely amazing. Has that retrofuturistic sound we've gotten used to from some Pure Trance releases. Very bold use of oldschool sounds, the kick is straight out of late 90's or from that "Techno that sounds like trance"-thread. The composition is simple, but the sound design and mixdown is topnotch. Great debut single and a fun artist name: https://www.gq.com/story/haruki-mura...kyo-full-story

I really like the direction Pure Trance has taken in the past few years, tracks like this are more tranceish than the ones in other labels

Amazing track, but really hating that rolling [delayed] kick though... ... Such a shame. Really great stuff otherwise.

Stop It! It's one of the best things in it, it gives it that techno feel, straight up Mauro Picotto stuff!

One of the reasons things don't progress is that listeners have gotten so used to certain standards, 4/4 time signature in general, 4/4 kick drum (and nothing else unless it's leading into a drop), snare/clap on every 2nd and 4th. It's breaking things like this that will lead into more unique sound. It took less than 20 years for rock to start breaking traditional time signatures and rhythm patterns, trance is going into it's 4th decade and we're still limited on the same thing. One of the reasons many other electronic music genres are so interesting is that they broke from the 4/4 generic rhythm mold years ago.

I fully agree with everything you wrote here, but having a more techno-oriented beat isn't what you'd call groundbreaking. I enjoy the track nevertheless.

This track is insanely good. Have to give Rich and his label props for supporting this kind of music. Like already mentioned here, Pure Trance has taken a very likeable direction in the past few years.

This is pretty damn good, love the analogue sound, looks like he even used modular synths on top of it all, woop. A label that's not afraid to innovate (or, well, reminisce about other times in music).

It's more than the vast majority of producers are willing to do.
    Great track, by the way.
