why is your set recorded as a WAV file? that a HUGE file.

any particular reason you dont record it as mp3 instantly anyway?

For lossless audio. You can then have a master copy which can be encoded to any bit rate and with any codec you wish.

As for help, check out razorlame. A helpful GUI tool which you can use to encode at various levels including VBR.

You'll need to also hunt down a version of lame.exe. The latest full version should do the job.

Is very easy to convert with the iTunes program as well, if you have it... just select what bitrate you want in the advanced options for importing from a CD (it will both rip and convert at this bitrate)... add the wav file to the library, right click on it and "create mp3 version". I do it all the time.

For lossless storage I would use FLAC, also lossless, but 40% less space used (it is like zipping/rarring a file)

Good advice, compressing the file reaches close to the same level of compression.

That's the best one I know. Also very nice for ripping cd's, but you can just select file > wav to mp3 and then it converts the file you select with the settings you specified for cd-ripping. Really, piece of cake!
My first track, let me know what you think!

Speaking of FLAC, does anyone else notice that their FLAC files are lower in volume than the wav's they were converted from? I don't bother converting to FLAC anymore cause of that, my PC plays audio quiet enough as it is (there's no degradation to the quality though, of course).

    I'd say it's a normalization setting.

Flac allows for Replaygain setting(lossless gain alteration), with a program like foobar2000 you can check/change this for FLAC files.

mp3 also has limited replaygain support - it's not part of the format itself, merely an additional field in the id3 tag which not all players honor. personally i have disabled support for it in all my players, and additionally delete all id3 tags from my files.

as for flac, somehow i find it strange that it does that, as the whole point of flac is to have the same thing as the original wav file, just with a lower disk usage footprint. but then again there might be replaygain thingies for wav files as well, heck if i know...

Using WAV to MP3 Encoder 2.5 you can convert wav file to mp3 file.WAV to MP3 Encoder works quickly, and the interface is simple: just drag and drop files directly from Windows Explorer. However, as its name suggest, the application doesn't support other audio formats the way more comprehensive programs do. Also, though you can of course choose the bit rate of your new audio files, you won't find a VBR option

WAV to MP3 Converter - which one do you use ?

hey. I would like to know your opinions about software that you use to covert your sets/tracks from WAV to MP3. I export my set to WAV files and then I have to convert it to MP3. I use some free programs, but Im not fully happy with the result.

so the question is: what do you use and what would you recommend?

ps. Im not sure if it's the right section of the forum to ask this question. if not, please move it where it should be
