I have a question that has made me wonder for the longest time. Why do many producers release tracks under alias's. Example:
Above and Beyond AKA oceanlab, aka, the dirt devils
Ronski Speed releases as Sun Decade,
Ferry Corsten as System F
i could go on and on.... since this is a pretty active board, i would like to get fellow members input on why producers do this..
"Dance dance in the morning light.
Open your darkened eyes.
Hey, hey, it’s a beautiful day.
It’ll be ok. It’ll be ok."

I would like to know this aswell.
Maybe it's their alter-ego?![]()

Don't know that too.....maybe it's their way to try something else undercover![]()
Trance is a natural drug that will heal us all...

It also makes the song more interesting....catchy title
Sometimes it sets forth the mood of the tune...

I always thought a lot of it was due to copyrights. If someone signs for a label under their real name, they then can't make a record a release it on another label under the same name, as their name is copyrighted under the contract with the first label. So they use an alias....
Check out how many aliases these guys have:

I think its a good way to attract music listeners.

I asked ferry that same question he told me they are basiclly 2 reasons: 1. so they can release a bunch of tracks at once (this is due to the fact thaty record label will not allow them to release a bunch of tracks cuz they lose money) and 2 sig. a different genre. (ex. trance, hardstyle, etc.)

what it has to do with is the different type of musc they put out...if you think about lets say Ferry Corsten...his stuff under the ferry corsten name sound nothing like the stuff he produces under the System F name. It has a different feel to it and sounds like a completely different artist....it gets weird though when you have guys release a track under one name and remix it under another...
Current Fav's
Jay Cox - Lighten Up [CDR]
Way Out West vs. The Doors - Wonka [CDR]
Deep Dish - Say Hello (Paul van Dyk Original Remix)[CDR]

As far as oceanlab and above & beyond i would say it beacuse of the label releases and singer/artists! Above & Beyond is 3 guys as we all know but oceanlab might be 2 of them same as Aalto and it's a different style of trance!

"It's not that she loves me more, It's just that I could care less"

because if there´s no success, the nonalias name will not be damaged

well, i dunno.... any trance lover worth their salt is gonna quickly (if they do some googling) find out who the producer is behind an alias.... another example with gabriel and dresden doing the "motorcycle" project... WTF?
