Another great trip behind me! Maybe like 10 post-worthy photos out of nearly 800, but luckily for me, photography is still secondary to hiking (that doesn't mean the camera leaves my neck at any point during the hike). Will be posting these on Instagram still, but this brings two points:

1. Instagram compression hasn't been very good to me (especially in some cases - my latest post). I am sort of wondering if I should have a website (luckily I am a developer) for my work to live somewhere, in higher quality. If only for myself. Something that won't limit me in any way. (I was also considering a physical medium, like a photo book, but that will never be an afterthought - it will be a careful curation of my best/favourite work.)

2. I was/am considering purchasing an Android tablet, with a great screen, for limited photo post-processing use cases. I don't carry my laptop on my trips because it's large and unnecessary just for that (that's where my work lives), and the phone is too small for this - a tablet might just be good enough. Secondly, Google's Snapseed app's latest major update brought masking, which is huge for photo post-processing. My flow already isn't too complex (because I also only post on Instagram), so I figure the app might just do it for me.

Unfortunately, I am too cheap and have bigger priorities (these days I am giving my car mechanic what is essentially a top-tier Samsung tablet equivalent in cash), so none of these will be happening any time soon. 🥲

I was debating whether or not to buy another lens. My setup is pretty tiring to carry around, as it's 1.33kg, and, worse than that, it's also quite bulky. I can somehow grind through it on hikes, because it's worth it. But because it's so bulky, I don't carry it with me at any other point.

Since I don't use it as often, that means that my progress and creativity is constantly dropping, waiting for a few months to pass until the next hike to start developing again. My photos don't get better.

I was constantly thinking about this the past few weeks. I found one small, very cheap lens - the only tradeoff is image quality in certain situations. Then I found another one, it was much better, and twice the price.

Luckily, I caught a break - I saw a discount, and I immediately ordered. Can't wait for it to arrive! Just in time, I leave on a trip this Sunday.
