Post useful videos, good tutorials, articles, or that gem of a trick you discovered yourself. Sometimes it’s just a happy accident.
Many tutorials on production but some are better than others.

A thread for producers or anyone interested in being one. Might be useful in some way to DJ’s also.

Beat/rhythm is probably the less discussed topics, that's why this YT Channel is gold
(the videos are well produced too)

Some gems

Watching other producers work is often a way of picking up nice tips and tricks.
Great to see this track evolve. LAR isn't doing anything crazy production wise, everything is quite simple, but he's making very good decisions on choosing sounds and arranging them to create this lush, chilled track.

that's the main skill (or better to call it talent) needed to make good music. all the technical stuff is rather easy to reach but the feeling of taste and ability to compose things in your head first is just not for everyone

Many tutorials on YT are overly long and not well structured.
This channel is fairly new and only posts ~1 mins practical tips. It gained lots of views quickly.

Guyver, breaking down his track that was released in 2002 on Tidy Trax.
He produce it using a very old version of FL Studio. Many of the plugins used are FL's native.

A good video on different types of scale modes here for anyone looking to brush up their music theory.

Just picked up a copy of the music theory book he recommended in this video.
My level of theory knowledge is not too bad, but there are definitely gaps. Just had a flick though and it looks like there's a good range of stuff in there. I will say however that the 'beginner to expert' tag is a bit misleading. I'd say intermediate to expert as, while it covers some basic concepts, it does require a base level of knowledge to start with.

I picked up a physical copy, but if you have Amazons Kindle unlimited sub it's free.

So I find that a good way to train your ears is to try to work out the melodies/chords/patterns of tracks that you like.
It also helps you see how other musicians build their melody & chord structures. It's not very difficult but it has helped me a lot over the years (plus it's fun)

Here's a few I've done recently in MIDI format should any of you want to drag them into your daw for educational or bootleg remix purposes.

ARTY - Save Me Tonight
Cold Blue - A Beautiful Mind
Driftmoon - Tribe Of The Sun
Lost Tribe - Gamemaster
Slipstream & Sonic Element - Forgiven
Solarstone - Sky
Tony Walker - Fields Of Joy

Plus the midi from a couple of my tracks should you want to have a look: Running Man & the forthcoming Sagittarius A 😁

@Magdelayna I seem to remember you were looking for the midi for Fields of Joy a year or 2 back? Or am I losing the plot?

Here you go:

I combined the original and 1992 Flight versions as there's some nice extra melodies in the 1992 one.
The arp was a bit of a pain due to the amount of delay and filtering on the original. Made it hard to actually hear what notes were playing, but I got there in the end. 😉
