Really like the Alvar one when I first played it, and will be one of my favorites from the year but then I turned on the original and it's just immediate to me how much better the oldskool sound design is. And I consider Alvar one of the best producers in the modern scene for sound design, but even he can't seem to cross this invisible rift that got created sometime in 2005/6, in which the most textured, dynamic and lush sounds seem to be sitting and always out of reach for everyone since. Feel like I'm going crazy sometimes... like maybe I just have this romanticized view about the way things sounded back then? But it's like my ears light up within 10 seconds of turning something like this on.

You are not going crazy. Or at least, you are not going crazy alone. Fully agree. The remix is very good, but the original is something else.

I quite like the AtomTM track too!

AtomTM - I See More Than You Do

'Atom™' is a true electronic pioneer and inovator .. he co-produced 'Resistance D.'s' first EP 'Cosmic Love' (Cosmic Love/Index) .. here you have a nice interview he did some time ago:

Nothing crazy about it. Anyone who grew listening to this music knows it too. The modern scene has a lot to like, but it’s always a form of settling taking place deep down.

That’s aside, Alvars interpretation is still good. He’s on form right now.

Hard to choose a favourite here, all very good. Maybe just about choice of synths and sounds that makes the original Cloud Hopping so good? It feels like those particular sounds are not in fashion anymore.

I think its more than just sound choice. It's like a richness I can't explain, and it feels so dynamic in the mix, like I am listening to something that has 3 dimensions and the sound sort of moves around inside that space.

Thanks for the nice words!! <3

First off i totally agree when it comes to the musicality/creative aspect, but when it comes to the mixing/mastering my intention is never to replicate the 90s sound, and i would not want that either. On a headset or for home listening those records sounds incredible, but in the club they turn in to a wall of mud and will often kill the energy unless you strictly play 90s records. I still play a lot of 90s music, but when i do its with the intention of lowering the energy in the room a bit. But all the clashing frequenices in the old records create new interesting and rich harmonies, but also they translate quite bad on big soundsystems.

So my interest lies within that space of sexy dynamic 90s mixes and overcompressed modern dance music. With this remix in particular my goal was simply to make something super DJ friendly, as the originals are very much not. And no point in trying to one up the musicality of the original track, as its as good as it will get already. If you compare this to my other tracks its quite a lot louder and more compressed.

Its something i think a lot about! And you guys are for sure not crazy, there is no need for loud compressed music at home.
