Hey everyone,

Yes it's me 😄 and for starters I'm doing well. This post might be a little bit of topic I guess but it involves music production as well so I'm putting it here.
I've been struggling with depression for some time now and thanks to professional help and music it's pretty manageable. But sometimes it can be hard to keep standing and it takes a lot of effort to keep on going and don't worry there aren't any harsh, irreversible thoughts involved.
This track (wip) is a result of literally putting myself in my room for hours for as I call it music making therapy.
It's hard to describe this track and to put it in a specific box. As far as I'm concerned it's trance.

Edit: Apparently the link posted doesn't work hopefully the new one does.

the tempo changes I think are lovely.

As someone who's been though therapy aswell it, to me at least, sort of marks the ups and downs common to (clinical) depression.
To me, but you can refute this, the pattern of depression in the mind is not that of a numb constant. but rather peaks and valleys constantly reminding you of what is going on.

You're absolutely right in both instances.

There are times where I'm more like the "old" or "normal" me and than there are times like I feel I'm at rock bottom.
I can also relate to the second part, the awareness of being reminded all the time for me is the part that also makes it so hard to try and explain to people what's going on, because all they see is the outside. That's why my wife came along from time to time to my sessions to get a better understanding.

I already knew I wasn't the only person to have similar issues, and it's nice to know that there are many that know what you're going through.

Thanks!

I do like the tempo change a lot as well.

This is amazing, I am just coming out of a pretty dark period myself and this sounds very cathartic, but apart from that it's a lovely song and I don't think it needs more.

Thank you!

I'm still shit in expressing my emotions "properly" but that slowly is getting better. For now music for me is still the best way for me to ventilate.

Sorry to hear you haven’t been well. I had years of struggling with mental health. I’ve been pretty much clear of it for a few years though thankfully 🫶.

I have been wondering for a while how you were. Thank you for coming on here and saying that. I’m glad some talking therapy is helping you. It can be such support. So glad you are finding music therapeutic too. It’s certainly an amazing way to express oneself.

The track you posted is sublimely beautiful. Love the sounds , the melody and the overall clarity . Inspirational with those chord and especially those tempo changes. That’s one hard thing to pull off. And you nailed it 👌. Please post (unless it’s too much pressure) if you add anything to it. I’m not sure it needs anything as it currently has a beautiful simplicity, which creates a clear and pure expression. But if you do add to it, it would be great to hear it.

That’s a really interesting observation of a pattern of depression.

It seems to be fairly common for creative types to have their own ‘demons’ to battle.
I wonder just how much those parts of the brain are interconnected?

Music, creativity of any form really, can be a great anti-depressant. That dopamine hit you get when a track starts to come together is pretty powerful for sure.

I liked this track. Really enjoyed how the pads and synth play of each other on the breakdown. Good work!

Thank you for your kind words 🙏 Glad to hear you're doing so well the post years and I hope it stays that way.
I hope I can say the same thing one day.

As I have said many times in the past "music is my saviour". It's still the best way for me to express and ventilate.

Glad you like the track. I just needed to make something without thinking, just letting it happen.
I will have look at it if they are things I can add to it, if not then it's finished. Will keep you certainly updated.

It's something I've talked about with my therapist and all I know that it's a hard question to answer.

That's well said for sure. It's the reason I call it music making therapy.

Thanks for liking it 🙏
