One of the greatest Hard Trance tunes ever made has been given the remix treatment.

Takes some serious cojones to pull this off and it has worked in my opinion.
Treated with true respect and kept all the original signature SHOKK sounds and elements while elevating into 2024.

Have to post the Original 2000 Klub Mix

With these things I ask would I play this remix over the original??? No, adds nothing new that’s exciting and my gosh it’s slow.
It is mostly respectful though as you pointed out, the EDM snares can fuck off though. Didn’t like the additions to the lead riff, felt forced and overdone.
I’m gonna be hard to please on these matters though, I went to Gatecrasher in 98-00 when these were all new and I can get a bit grumpy old raver at times…. a lot….
There are some hard trance tunes from that era that would benefit from an update, but this isn’t one IMO. The original still slams.

If the original mix (no matter how old it is) has such a cult status, then most fans will probably be disappointed. To be honest, I also hesitated whether I wanted to do the remix at all.

So I decided not to do a completely new remix, but to do a mixture of a rework and a remix. And Nick then motivated me to add a few new elements and slightly adapt the melody. I think I managed the break part quite well and I also tried to incorporate a few typical elements from the old SHOKK productions. In the end, it's a question of taste whether you like it or not. The fact that the track still ended up in the top 20 of the Beatport charts at least tells me that we didn't do everything wrong. :)

The remix by AlexMo and Lab4 will be released shortly, which I think is "braver" than our mix. Maybe you'll like this mix better then.

For all those interested in music, I'll give you an insight into how the remix for Shokk was created. I'll also show you how the lead sound was created. Incl. additional sound samples.

Yeah man I wouldn't have gone near it, as I 100% know I could not improve the original. I've turned down every remix of a classic I've been asked to do on this basis, except one - and in that case I worked closely with the original producers.
I doubt I'll like the Lab4 et al remix. I used to get dragged to Lab 4 events by the hard house heads in my GC crew and enjoyed it but wasn't mad for the sound. I doubt I'd like any remix of this tune as it just shouldn't be touched, I genuinely cannot see any way it could be improved.
