VST for CLASSIC TRANCE

I would like to know what VST you use to get that classic sound, for my part I use Viper by Adam Szabo, it is very well made and is inspired by the ACCESS virus, its creator provides good support and you can even load banks of it.

Synth1 has some interesting banks and free.

Discovery PRO, wants to be the emulation of the Nord LEAD 2x

DSP56000 emulates 90s synths Vavra for Waldorf Microq And Osirus for Access Virus B&C, but consumes a lot of CPU.

My favourite synths at the moment are Spire, Hive 2 and Diva.

All very capable to get that classic trance sound and there are loads and loads of presets available.

+1 for v-station, novation synths have always had a nice silky smooth quality that other va's don't really have

You can search also jv1080 xv5080 and some korg vst s. Discovery pro is very nice for ''90 sound. Reason rack have the classic sound & arturia collections.

V & Bass Station free plugins obvious choices.
Diva has that good analogue sound and is great for those vintage sounds.
The Adam Szabo JP6k plugin is a great JP8000 emulator that I've used in a load of my tracks. In fact I used that for most of the original 'Hardwired' track.

Any synth plugin is capable of creating sounds like they're from the classic periode.
Crtain sounds that are sample based from the JV1080, M1, K1 etc are available in VST too

completely forgot about meatbeats orbhits - there's a free version and a pro version which is super cheap. really useful for house and drum & bass too

If it's the latter, there are loads of emulations available, and Arturia has loads of highly regarded ones. U-he has some great ones as well, although they aren't emulations.

Designed by the producer Danny Taurus who helps run a large FB group on underground music production. First chap who responded when I got back into writing music after a 22 yr break and I reached out as compared to the 90s it looked like an alien world . Very nice VST.

It doesn't matter if it's emulation or a "new" synthesizer but with that characteristic Trance 2000 sound, not all new synths are good enough to make Trance Classic, many come out with sounds that seem too clean and monotonous

I disagree, if anything the "classic" trance sound (95-2005) era waspretty clean as it was mostly based on the first era of VA's hardware and later first VST synths. Which in comparison to modern plugins sounded quite digital. Legendary VA synths like JP8000, Nord Lead, Yamaha AN1x, Access Virus are considered pretty digital and "plasticy" by real analog synthesizer enthusiasts. The digital processing power to accurately model the unstable character of analog synth components just wasn't there 20-30 years ago. But to me it's actually this "plasticy" sound combined with other digital sounds like workstation synthesizers (like M1, Triton, D50 etc) that makes the late 90's early 2000s trance sound stand out.

If you know what makes 90's trance sound like 90's trance I don't see why you couldn't use any modern plugin to reproduce similar sounds. A subtractive synthesizer is a subtractive synthesizer, just stay away from over processing and other modern production techniques and understand what were the limitations back in the day. Even if you use faithful classic gear, if you combine it with modern DAWs with modern plugins like Parametric Mid/Side Dynamic Equalizers and modern habits like sidechaining etc, it will not sound classic but modern instead.

Good very complete explanation, I liked it, however not all modern synthesizers or VSTs are worth to get that plastic sound let's say 90-2000, it is true that now the sound quality in general is better but great songs sounded brutally good even at that time without the means that there are currently, some modern productions try to resemble the old and you can tell that they are current others are very successful. I also have an access virus and a JP8000 and it shows.
I can compare, for example Spire is quite similar to the 90-2000 sound if you want and Serum I notice it much more current.

Hit me up if you need any help. Remember you can get extremely good free software if you wanted to do that to see if you enjoy it. I can guide you with some technical aspects too if you need it. But I won’t push you too much to start doing it. Some get put off by that.

I can highly recommend Serum or Vital of you want to really get into synthesis.
