In my experience, young audience (under 28) can accept one or two accessible trance songs in a night.

But generally, they simply don’t understand the music. Even if it’s semi EDM-ish trance like Orjan or Omnia. They have a short attention span for any music they don’t know. They will stare at you if you play Rank 1 Airwave. No hands in the air, they simply don’t get it.

For audience above 30, it’s a bit different. They are more open for music they don’t know. And they might have some nostalgic memories. I would still not go for modern uplifting though. But a Superstring or Marco V ‘Simulated’, people will like it and some will recognize it.

But this is mostly based on
with very wide pop/dance or wedding audience. You are saying it’s a techno house club?

If I were to play there, I would try to blend in quite a bit of techno. And for trance: pick techy or ravy trance like said ‘Simulated’. Direct Dizko. Or the old Age Of Love. There are lots of techno-ish remakes and remixes of trance classics too.

I would not go for any euphoric big melodies at all. Or maybe try one to see if your audience likes it. Oh and another tip: the later it gets, the less people care.

Playing Out Of The Blue at 1:00 in the night might scare people away. But at 4:00 it’s a different situation.

It all depends a lot on your audience. Prepare for multiple scenarios. Don’t show up with just your preferred set on a stick. Start with a scenario where you only test trance to see response. If good, expand to more-trance-scenarios. But if they stare at you when you try Gouryella - Anahera, you will feel bad, you know it’s just not that kind of night. Go back to techno.

It’s still fun to mix techno imo.

Wait, the club is trance-focussed too?

Well, if your audience expects trance then it’s a completely different game of course.

Still prepare various scenarios and not just one, but you can probably play more trance… 😉

Got some utter balloon on Instagram telling me the reason modern Trance is crap compared to the stuff in the 90’s is because modern synths aren’t good at making trance sounds.

“Serum only has 2 oscillators whereas some of the 90’s hardware had 4”

I wish people would take second to educate themselves on this stuff before trying to use it in their arguments ffs :ROFLMAO:

Just say you can’t afford it but he may sponsor you some money if he likes
I think he was talking about trance in general rather than me personally (I hope :ROFLMAO: )
Asked him if the difference between the real hardware units and their digital emulations is enough to destroy an entire genre or not.
I await his response 😁

I mean I've only read reviews of the place online so I don't really know; haven't been there myself yet. I think the lion's share of their sound is house and techno, but they mentioned trance in the reviews as well, and the manager said that they might throw more trancy-themed nights at some point. Hopefully I could be billed as offering a trancy experience, but I get it - you need to play to the crowd.

I'm really looking forward to the end of winter. The cold and rainy days can be quite depressing. Also need to reach gig car share customer service finally as it looks like i not gonna get my car back this month as well. It is very frustrating when you don't have your own transport and need to visit couple different places (far from each other) every day.

You know when you married the right person for you?

When you forget the first Valentine’s Day as a married couple and they don’t mind whatsoever. Doesn’t even make you feel bad one bit.

My girl is not impressed by Grand Gestures. Shes a genuine spirit. (thank fuck for that!)

Quite excited. One of the 10! recent tracks I’ve started is actually getting somewhere and I reckon maybe even sounding balanced with the levels & mix so far. Don’t know how long it will be once done. I’m even hopeful about the structure it currently has. It’s 3 mins long thus far and I still have good inspiration for it. I’ve usually given up with a track by now ( like with most of the others I’ve recently started) but have taken a different approach with this one. My new approach. Don’t over complicate things.

From the wings of a Bird- prog 90’s feel with a modern touch. (Hopefully). 🙂
