Audio Fake Detector PRO is a a tool developed by me, designed to identify audio files passed off as "high quality" (lossless or high
bitrate) but which actually come from compressed and lossy sources, such as MP3

What's new
  • After the main analysis finishes, the script automatically rescans the target folder (including all subfolders) for audio files added during the run. Any new files found are analysed immediately with the same rules as the main pass.
The rescan repeats until no new files are found, then orphan folder cleanup runs once as usual.
No user interaction required - the process is fully automatic. Only applies when a folder is being scanned; dragging individual files is unaffected.

  • Thanks

Has anyone tried this?

I use Spek a lot. Downside is it can only check one audio file at a time

Info line now shows full technical metadata: codec name, sample rate (kHz), channel count (Nch), bit depth if available (lossless only),
bitrate, duration last. Examples:
Encoder: reference libFLAC 1.3.4 │ flac │ 44.1 kHz │ 2ch │ 24 bit │ 1411 kbps │ 00:08:13
Encoder: LAME3.100 │ mp3 │ 44.1 kHz │ 2ch │ 320 kbps │ 00:04:01

Third updated 2026-06-14
Resolved a display bug in the final summary where the resume counter showed an incorrect starting file index (e.g., "10 of 9").

I've tried it and it works well, especially if you only need to inspect a few files occasionally.

Spek is a great tool for quick visual checks, but since it can only analyze one file at a time, I find it impractical when dealing with large collections. Checking thousands of files manually would be extremely time-consuming.

That's actually one of the reasons I developed Audio Fake Detector PRO: to automate the process and analyze entire music libraries without having to open files one by one.

I have tried it and it works and these files are cleared for HD lossless 24/192

Has anyone tried this?

I use Spek a lot. Downside is it can only check one audio file at a time

Yes, both files are FAKE and the pattern is very clear and consistent across the two tracks.

What the log reveals:

The hi-res engine (96 kHz, auCDtect bypassed) analyzed 5 slots per track. The problem isn't the cutoff itself, but the combination of high cutoff and high ratio:

Some slots show a seemingly good cutoff (~43–45 kHz), but with a ratio of 0.815–0.882. In genuine hi-res, the ratio should be low (close to 0) because the energy is evenly distributed all the way up. A high ratio means the energy is concentrated in a narrow band, typical quantization noise that artificially "fills" the spectrum.

Other slots (slot@190s, end@452s/496s) drop to 24–28 kHz, with an even higher ratio (0.888–0.928), which betrays the true cutoff of the lossy source, likely an MP3 at ~192–256 kbps with a true cutoff around 19–22 kHz, then upsampled to 96 kHz.
The ABRUPT-END on both (~17 kHz drop vs. best segment) is a further indicator: the compressed source shows variable behavior on the last segment, typical of the lossy encoder.

The Lavf61.7.100 encoder (FFmpeg lavformat) confirms that these FLACs were created using FFmpeg, not from a direct rip from a hi-res master, but likely by converting a lossy file.

Conclusion: Lossy source upsampled to 24-bit/96kHz and repackaged as a hi-res FLAC. The instrument's FAKE classification is correct.

Hey man, good to see a fellow developer here! And from the description of it, looks like good software so I hope it helps some fellow trance heads.

That said, I'm sorry but I don't see the point in these updates without any context; this is not GitHub. It is absolutely fine to promote your own work as long as it's relevant to the forum, but I'd also like to encourage you to share some good music and participate in discussions. Thanks! 👾

I don't like this tune or so I thought . I may have listened to it maybe 2 times in 20 years but I listened to it about 20 times in the last week only because I enjoyed the musical flow and lossless 24bit /192khz vinyl quality. My passion for this music is entirely reloaded.

I don't like this tune or so I thought . I may have listened to it maybe 2 times in 20 years but I listened to it about 20 times in the last week only because I enjoyed the musical flow and lossless 24bit /192khz vinyl quality. My passion for this music is entirely reloaded.

This is one of the rarest genuine hi-res results the tool can produce. Cutoff at 96000 Hz (the Nyquist limit of a 192 kHz file) with ratio=0 across all slots means the spectrum is full to the physical limit of the format with zero quantization noise, as clean as it gets.

The encoder fre:ac v1.1.6 confirms this is a direct lossless rip, not an FFmpeg conversion, and vinyl is one of the very few sources where 192 kHz/24 bit is genuinely justified , the stylus and cartridge capture analogue noise, harmonics and physical artefacts well beyond 20 kHz with no digital filter cutting the spectrum.

"For An Angel" was originally released on vinyl in 1994, so this checks out perfectly.

One note: the log shows random@294s instead of slot@294s, this label was corrected in the latest version (2026-06-16). You may want to update to get the latest fixes and improvements.

Edit: The tool does not judge whether the content above 22 kHz is musically meaningful -it judges whether the file is a fake, meaning whether someone took a compressed source and repackaged it as hi-res. This file is a direct vinyl rip at 192 kHz/24 bit using fre:ac - no one is deceiving anyone. The analogue surface noise, phono preamp hiss and mechanical artefacts are an authentic and inseparable part of the source, not an upsampling artefact. Ratio=0 across all slots confirms there is no quantization noise fingerprint from a lossy encoder anywhere in the spectrum.

Regarding your proposal to implement a subroutine to isolate and discard the vinyl surface noise signature: this is not planned, for several reasons. The noise floor of a vinyl rip varies enormously depending on the cartridge, phono preamp, record condition and recording environment, there is no universal signature to detect. The result would be ambiguous at best (SUSPECT, not FAKE), and anyone ripping vinyl at 192 kHz is making a conscious and informed choice about their source. Introducing such logic would risk false positives on genuine analogue recordings.

The OK verdict stands. This is an authentic analogue capture, not a fraud.
