Recently someone uploaded a picture of real Monet to X, but then proclaimed he made it with AI, and asked people to describe how it was different. So many responses of people not just 'seeing' how fake it was, but how low quality the work is. Worth a read

"off", "Incoherent", "no sense of space", "slop", "looks like shit", "obviously no depth, contrast or cohesion"... etc

It shows how your own mental rules and beliefs will change the art in font of you. from masterpiece to slop, just because you applied your own construct onto the experience. It's interesting. What would happen if your view on AI was one of optimism, or you saw the positives in it?

It happens outside of AI too, for example if I see a bad/silly track name, it somehow makes me enjoy the track less, which is stupid. Also, no question that ISOS series feels more special to me, because we all sort of collectively get behind it. I'm sure there are bedroom mixes with better track selection and mixing that will never take such a place in my heart/head.

A bad track name would never put me off a good track hehe. But i do remember back in the day,if a compilation CD had a really bad or boring design,id take a dimmer view of it haha. I used to love the Euphoria and Gatecrasher artwork on the CDs..

A little ashamed to admit, but I enjoyed this for far to long before I realized it was AI generated music. How are they making this? Sound quality sounds miles better than was Suno was giving me when I had a quick try last year. Has it just improved that much, or is there a different workflow now?

Not surprised. I was listening to some releases lately found the usual frauds that use ghost producers now can just use AI. Newest slop from Simon Patterson, Shogun and Talla 2XLC.

Doesn't do a good job detecting AI tracks
#yet

the technology runs virtually parallel, so why there will always be peaks & valley's the overall curve is fairly similar, e.a. What ever can be Ai generated, can be AI detected.

It would be fantastic if the waveform contained an inaudible watermark. Currently, it can easily be detected by ear. At least by me.

tbh I reject the premise with the OP and with everyone who’s anti-AI.
AI *can* be used to be innovative and explore musical ideas beyond what a human producer could have considered. How many times did people complain that someone like JOOF or the steroid trance guys (O’Callaghan, Askew, etc.) completely ran out of ideas? At least I thought that back in the day.

This was pretty legit. It feels like older early to mid 2010s liquid d&b that a lot of producers simply wouldn’t make today

Something similar to what you asked about actually happened in Japan recently concerning a major pop girl group. To make a long story short, their producer is in his 60s and spent his entire career producing music for pop girl groups. He started in the late 70s and early 80s. For decades, his sound was respected but viewed as formulaic and stale, and not at all contemporary. His music feels like the musical equivalent of going to a museum - you can appreciate the technical proficiency, but it feels dated.

His life’s work was fed to Gemini, which also made major producer-type decisions like selecting a representative track from a bank of thousands of possible tracks.
Then, a contest happened: fans of the group voted for one of two songs to be released officially. One song was Gemini’s AI-generated* song, and the other was made entirely by the producer. The thing is, no one knew which was which.
One song (let’s call it, song A) was *very* his: traditional, well-crafted, and dated.
The other song (song B) was highly unusual. It was the group’s most modern-sounding song in years, almost bold in just how modern and trendy it felt. The lyrics were also *very* his.

Since fans didn’t know which song was AI-generated, fans gravitated towards song B. Song B was the AI song.

*”AI-generated” at least for the context of this song was more about producer/executive and songwriting decisions. Gemini wrote the lyrics, selected the track, and selected the members to perform this track. Humans produced the actual music and sang/performed the song.

Might be the premium version or Udio and stable audio as well.

CD Sales are making a comeback

Look how cool, creative and beautiful these synth UIs are, all made with Claude. It shows AI can make original and lovely stuff when a creative mind gets their hands on it. I know comparing UI design and music is not an apples to apples comparison in the AI debate, but I see many in my field embracing the technology and doing wonderful things with it.

I know people who could never dream of making their own digital products years ago now brining their ideas to life, and as seasoned designer I am seeing all sorts of experimental and leveled up web design starting to appear, with clever interactions, motion, 3D, audio, etc. Stuff I just never would have done before. I wonder if music could see benefits too, with more experimentation unlocked?

After all it all comes to "why", not "what". If AI is used in some way to create something original and fresh with the clear intention and actual artistic value to it - who cares, why not. Guys like BT or you name it, real studio nerds surely can find a way to use AI in production in a clever way. But in 99,9% cases AI in music is now used as an ultimate shortcut just to drop something quick and effortlessly. It makes "making" music easier for idiots end egodriven people, and it overweights the possible benefits for the actual producers.
