Yesterday we had the privilege of Armin putting up a set in our backyard to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the liberation of our city of Leiden.

I really don't see your "this is what you get" problem here, the people in the livestream (including the mayor himself) are clearly enjoying the set. Also, the city of Leiden is in no way obligated to take their own jubilee party seriously. It's known for being proud of its culture and famous people such as Armin and Jochem (who are very good friends in case you didn't know, it's not the first time they've spend the Ontzet together either), so having them write a non-serious supplementary hardstyle song for said party really isn't something you should be surprised or weirded out about.

It's completely fine if you don't like Armin, Jochem or anyone else who appeared on that stage but please just let the city have its fun and celebrate its own birthday the way it wants to, ok?

That's partially because I study in Leiden and I'm familiar with what the Ontzet is like, but mostly because I don't get why everyone is so hyperfixated on recycling the same negative comments about Armin every single time he's brought up. Same as what I said about Will Atkinson, the guy's moved on from trance so calling him a "disgrace", "clown" or "sellout" just because he's stopped making (or even marketing his tracks as) trance is nothing more than beating a dead horse.

While I personally like how open you can be on Trancefix about not liking a specific track or artist as a whole, I do think you'll agree with me that Trancefix isn't really made for posting negative comments just for the sake of making negative comments. I personally think it's best to mostly ignore him in pursuit of trancier artists and sets and to let people who do enjoy their Armin tracks and sets to just enjoy them.

That has nothing to do with dissing the music the man makes nowadays.
Sure it's not my cup of tea but that's not relevant.

It's just the stage appereance and all of that. Very very cringe.

I partly agree.
For us Leidenaren it's always a special thing when he plays in our backyard on this occasion.

The set wasn't what I'd hoped for but still the whole city had a blast especially when Jochem came on stage. They're as Gijs mentioned very good friends and for us to see them both on stage as such was just like two kids having fun together.

But I guess it's more an inside thing for Leidenaren.

Well, it gives him attention and views on youtube and facebook and on stage which is what he is looking for and it is a disgrace considering the tracks he used to produce in the past. He has watered down his sound and I blame his partner and the people he was around for influencing him that way.
