From Arnej's Facebook page from the beginning of February:

Hello my friends, I know I've been gone a while but you know ... life? I'm sorry for not being more active on social media these days but if I'm being honest with you, I had nothing to say. Shocking I know, given how vocal I've been about various topics in the past, but I suppose that's also a part of getting older. The lockdown has given me enough time to think about a couple of things, my music being one of them. I've seen your messages come in over and over again asking about new music. Truth be told, I've been away but I've not stopped producing, in fact quite the opposite. I've made more music than I care to admit, and I know these seem like hollow words since the obvious question is ... "Well where is it?".
Many of you have picked up on the fact that my music hasn't really been the same since 2013/14 and you'd be right to point that out. I had lost my father during that period and I never fully came to terms with that loss. He was very instrumental in my musical life and that loss has resonated with me since.
It's no coincidence that I should choose to write this message on my Father's birthday, to let you know that everything is gonna be alright and that you'll be hearing from me extensively throughout this year and forward. I've produced enough music, ranging from progressive to techno and everything in between, to fill multiple albums.
I've seen your messages and had failed to answer them, for that I apologize. I hope you'll stick around to see what's been cooking in the lab all these years.
Happy birthday dad, I miss you.

He comes back every few years with loud statements like this, I don't believe him anymore
Absolutely. Went all out against the scene years back, talked a lot but released mediocre stuff. Will give him a chance when he's back but I'm not really excited.

Why did Arnej, a rather small trance producer with one (?) or two half decent/popular trance releases get such a following? I mean, why does "trancefans" care so much about his utterances?

Arnej did what many trance artists who dont sell much dont understand. Hes good with creating a hype around himself. And hes good with the social media stuff.

Most producers nowadays they just hand the label whatever they produced and then they sit there and complain that they didnt get a penny from sales. And yes i know the industry is rotten, and how the revenue is shared is absolutely bonkers but my point still stands.

If Arnej sold more than some introvert producer hiding behind the computer screen for 20 years i dont know, but for sure the possibilitys of earning more was certainly there. Same as more chances of gigs, collabs, remixes etc.

I dont think you give him enough credit. He had more than just one or 1,5

They always come back
Dust in the wind
The ones that get away
Strangers we’ve become (tech mix)
Tomorrow never comes
Beginning of the end
8 wonders - the liftoff

Those were really strong and brought “his own sound”. Gained lots of support from Armin and Schulz.

For me the quality of his releases dropped since those. But he deffo was quite big in 2008-9-10.

Maybe, I was away from trance from 2008/9-2013/14 . I thought most knowed him from his self-titled. I still dont get why he's a "big" spokesperson / pointing the finger guy and why do you think its important @mrx.friend ?

After a quick listen to his tracks i think most are really forgettable. He was def not among the bigger names imo, with strong tracks under his belt. He did the minimal/deamau5/bigroom snappy schulz prog in 07-13. Thats the worst period in trance history haha.

I can see how you would say that when looking back. Anyway, wanted to post this one. It's a bit too "bleepy" for you perhaps Daysleeper, but I think it's a great production and quite fresh :)

Well, it's hard to explain but maybe easy to say - I just like his music and that's a subjective point of view. If I try to produce something by myself one day, Arnej would definitely be one of my inspirations. As many have expressed in topic, I consider his style unique (no matter if we are talking about Arnej or 8 Wonders). I also love his orchestral intros of some of his tracks. Maybe there were others who composed similar music but in that case I had to miss them. I don't care about social networks for years so I don't mind Arnej's media image. I'm just curious what he'll come up with. E.g., this track would be in my personal top trance for sure, such an emotion-jerker:

yeah i'm sort of with daysleeper & Enlusion on this one. The man can make music and has a couple of great releases under his belt... no doubt.

But concerning his "the state of the scene" ramblings & comebacks once & so often I find him coming across as the trancescene's resident hipster.

That being said, The recent statement comes across as the most genuine, especially the part on his dad who passed away.

we'll c i guess.

He's just letting off steam and sharing thoughts, why not? It's no different when we say the same things in the forum really, he's just a normal dude whose talking about his own industry. Who has labelled him as big spokesman for anything? No one I think. I rant 30x more than him, at least he can make Trance

Thats exactly the kind of thing a hipster would say
Haha. I dont score any points on the hipster test if you go through the points on wikipedia atleast. Ive nenver dressed, owned or had any opinons they express there.

I like pop-music, Ive never had a full beard, never had a hipster bike. I dont like stuff just because they are original or obscure etc.

The closest I would admit is maybe a music-snob but i dont consider classical music being supperior to other music and stuff like that.
