Raw, melodic and brimming with dream punk energy, ASTRAL BANDIT (Harmless Records, Underzone) make their LOST LANGUAGE debut with DIFFERENT KIND OF FRIEND, a track that evokes the Balearic Trance atmosphere of EL-EL's early years, but with the innocence and urgency of a new Trance underground, where delicate riffs are coiled around hardcore BPM's, and the production is tough, tight, and minimal.

LOSTLEGEND taps into the golden age of late 90's Trance with a Signum / Gamemaster inspired remix, whilst US producer VERGIL, fresh from collaborations with Pro Athlete and Transki, serves up a deep and muscular Tech-Trance rework for his label debut. Expect more from both this year.

As we continue with our Vaughan Oliver inspired explorations into the macro, Danish artist MAGNUS GAARDE NEIGAARD provides us with a stunning image, exploring the dichotomy between Water, Fire, and Earth, and the absurdity of destabilisation, via the medium of heat and glass.

You can find more of their work on Instagram @nejgaard

Original

LostLegend Remix

Vergil Edit

El El seem to be really doubling down on that oldskool trance/psytrance crossover stuff that's been picking up pace with the likes of Sioc & Claires Accessories providing remixes lately. (Astral Bandit is on remix duty for one of my upcoming releases on the label as well!)
There's some really interesting music coming out of that scene and it's good to see one of the more established labels throwing so much support behind it.

The original is such a vibe and remixing it was so much fun and I countered the hypnotic main riff by adding my own more 'traditional' melody for the main drop.
The Vergil remix takes a more harder edged approach to proceedings.

Original melody is nice. Wondering if they're influenced by HiFi Bugs' Lydian & Dinosaur.

Seems like it, El El & Solarstone (saw some of the tracks on his Pure Trance Podcast).
However, afaik El El is the only label atm who tried to bridge both the modern and the fast paced oldskool scene.

Cracking remix LostLegend, really enjoyed that - mental imagery of hands in the air towards the end :)

Vergil Edit is probably a bit too banging for my tastes on its own BUT I'd probably lap it up in context in a mix whilst at the gym.

Having to recalibrate my brain back to 90s settings for the sheer speed of the original, think it may be just too fast for me to properly appreciate!

Listened to these properly now. Original is pretty sweet, lovely melody and just chill spirit. Could have done bit more musically but will vibe to it again for sure.

LL your remix has also has a lovely melodic parts too, In fact I found the build and all the different fx and melodies used there really nice, and the baseline was very satisfying for me. Def wanted the track to be much faster/harder/driving but maybe thats coming off back of listening to the more speedy original. The climax melody moves a little out of my taste, but not too bad.

Virgil remix energy is good, but doesnt do too much, would have liked some of the sweet melodies in there to make it more interesting.

Mastering/mixdown of all of them feels little off, but could just be me.
