Love the vibes of chicane since many years and this album is sublime. A mix of the brilliant ambient "Thousand Miles Star" and trance "The sum of its part". Maybe of one best electronic album of this year. It's sad not to see a physical version

Its ok, and better than a lot of his newer stuff, but the best tracks off it were already released as singles - though they are all faaaaar to short : (
Go back and listen to 'Far from the maddening crowds' and 'Behind the sun'. The first is better and one of my favourite albums of all time that always takes me back to being a happy 15 year old, but both are good. 'Don't give up' from that album marked the start of his move into more chart/pop territory. But he's been coming back to his original sound a lot more again recently.

I listened to it yesterday and it's quite nice! I honestly enjoyed it, but I don't know if it will stick with me for a longer while. Definitely better than his previous albums in the last 15 years or so.

Much closer to the essence of Chicane, but I won't compare to the classic albums. So much time had passed, so much has changed regarding producing techniques and styles.

It's kinda funny, but almost every producer wants clean and hi-res sound, but with modern eq and filtering, compression, the sounds are too sharp and lose depth because of that..
Especially the beatwork suffers from this, because sharp kicks and hats can be really hard on the ears and feel kinda dry.

Still, I feel he's made a good job, the album is really good for the times we have!

There are extended versions included, but still they're only just under 6 mins mostly. Yeah it's too short, I can live with it, but 8 minute tracks would be lovely.

some really nice tracks here. I just wish he'd move away from the commercial side. This is so close to being something pretty special.

Nice to see topic for this one!

I listened to this on Friday. I was really pleasantly surprised. My initial thought was that this is the best Chicane album since Behind The Sun.

Funny, or tragic? Who knows why all the prog producers decided that sucking the warmth from the genre is the right path. No one in their right mind would take this lifeless sound design over the old soundscapes, so why do producers insist to go this route over and over again. Does anyone with taste like it? I think their software and all the technical tinkering is at fault. Too much perfecting and hi-resing until there is a nothing but a soulless imitation left of the wavelengths. It’s unnatural, we know and feel this subconsciously.

Yeah when I play some over 20 years old stuff, my gf always asks with real interest who made it, because it has so much depth and emotion, it instantly captured her attention. That happens rarely when I play the modern stuff.

Same everywhere else, people usually prefer when I play older stuff. It captures attention a lot more and creates better vibes in 90% of all cases.

They have to finally get it, overly hi-res sounds are uncomfortable to hear!
It's piercing!

Especially confusing, since it's absolutely possible to create warm sounding mixes nowadays. I have no probs with that, plenty of software can do that well.

If somebody wants to, it's easy to achieve this.

I havnt listened to the album yet but i agree with the point about producers using super clean crisp beatwork nowadays - if you listen to his Behind The Sun album it had this aunthentic, almost 'old' analogue sound to the beats and percs which i loved...it suited the sound and merged perfectly with the synths and pads - where you felt like you were actually there,in the Balearic locations the whole Chicane sound is based on.

This album was a good listen, but after reading all your comments about the sound and how it feels I can’t help but agree. Always had a special place in my heart for the chicane sound but with his modern approach it is like a different skin or producer entirely. So it feels like missed potential.
