Contacting producers re unreleased tracks

I've been looking for a track that never got a full release ('Brother Grim - Energy' off the Pure Euphoria album in 2000) for about a decade, and recently found that one of the producers is still active DJing and has a facebook page. Is there any etiquette around messaging producers about unreleased tracks? I know it's not unheard of but I'm a little hesitant to just drop a facebook message or something.

I wouldn't hesitate. I message producers all the time on Facebook, and usually they respond. Email is also nice if you can find it. Most are happy to help or chat.

I would ask Matt Darey about that,im sure he would help, hes a nice guy.
I did send him an email about it a few years ago but never got a response, I'm not 100% sure if it went through but I wouldn't be able to know for sure anyway.

Yeah what they said. Just contact them ask politely, be patient they might not respond for a while. I've seen posts on dj forums about this same thing. Most artists will be super nice and most likely will try to help you, but keep in mind that they also might not.

I think I contacted Arksun a bunch of times but to no avail unfortunately. Some just don't respond at all. But I remember Eco being super nice. Airwave usually responded until the management took over his inbox; I remember he did reach out once or twice on TranceFix as well.

Yes I did it once. Contacted Voyager for his track Someone Else which was featured on Gabriel & Dresden Bloom album from 2004. He gave it to me, to my big surprise. Sometimes you can ask if they want some money for it or you could offer them that you could donate to a good cause they support. There are ways ofcourse. But never just ask it bluntly. Approach is everything.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I emailed Tony Grimley and he replied that "the track was made in 1992 and the day tape is nowhere to be found" which is a massive shame, but '1992' definitely doesn't sound right to me?

I checked my copy and couldn't find any specific sleeve notes about it, but the credits for the track read "(p) 2000 Liquid Asset Recordings" - the email address listed on Discogs for the label is marked 'no longer active' though. Back to square one I guess...
