I think I just finished one of my strongest songs ever. Three hours last night + 3 hours tonight which makes it one of my fastest songs too. I am pretty sure I missed a lot of stuff, but as always I will need a few days and listens to pick up on things that have been messed up or not automated enough.

I would really urge you to give the song a listen from start to end.

Very interested what do you think @Archon as you might be more familiar with the style I am trying emulate.

It's very laid-back and almost dreamy, I love that! That instrument/synth from the start that also shows up later in the track is lovely. I too think this might be one of your strongest tracks.

This is really good.
The groove is absolutely on point. The bassline and percussion work together so well in this. The hypnotic synths and vocals give it a great atmosphere.
Definitely the best thing I've heard from you!

If I was to be hyper-critical (really nit-pick, you know me ! ) I'd say tone the reverb on the percussion down just a little bit.
You really want the higher percussive parts to gel with the kick and bass to really emphasize the groove. Too much reverb can give the percussion too much space and separation from the dryer elements.

On a side note (and as a precursor to a thread I am working on), how are you feeling with the progression of your production skills?
I can hear that you have come a long way since I first joined here and there were times that you were getting a little frustrated considering quitting.
Are you starting to feel more satisfied with how your productions are starting to sound?
You should be! 😉

I am actually really impressed with the 2 parts where the melodic pads shine through. I had the song on repeat for a few hours today and this the first time where I have a long song that has the same old boring structure, but does not seem that boring/static. I might of used 2/3 times more volume/filter automation than usual and I finally understand how some of my older song might feel boring/lazy due to using a lot less automation than here. Seems when I go in selfanalize mode something I picked from djing, I can improve significantly in a short time. It helps that I finished like 4 songs in 10 days and 6 in a month which was what helped me progress fast at the first place. Closing on 100 I think even without some finished songs that I straight up shelfed and never uploaded anywhere.

I bit of story about the song, I am trying to emulate a sound from the 90's when gipsy bands got their hands on cheap synths and started playing them in their song using the presets. While comical in some cases it really created a unique sound combining traditional balkan music with electronic music. The sample and the melody (that you can hear at the start) emulate that very well, even the percussions are quite on point too. When I think the bassline too in some ways.

I am a bit confused to be honest if this is song is actually not a trance one is disguise. That melodic pads really shine through some parts. While its sits at 125 it combines so many styles and elements without even counting the balkan rhythms.

I think these days I use a bit more samples, but that's more of lazy/time saving hack. I definitely see where I lack and I work on improving in those places - theory, melodies, the structure and I think my biggest weakness atm is becoming drums - lately I use mostly samples or if make mine I use the samples to improve them. I noticed my drums was the one thing I haven't improved at all and while they were pretty good for a beginner, now they are a bit underwhelming.

I think self-doubt will always be a thing for me like most producers. At one point I was thinking it's only me and 2/3 people on this fucking planet that actually like my music so what's the point of even trying, but then again what's the point of anything :)

Recently after my first label release came out, it counted the listens from the label upload towards my profile SoundCloud listens and somehow I managed to break through the SoundCloud algorithms. The previous 3 songs I uploaded managed to get 460 listens combined in 10 days which is what normally I get from 10 songs for an year.

The song before this one just became my most listened one and I don't even think it's that good. Sometimes I can't understand what is what, 281 listens - how I can't imagine, not that I am complaining:

That's insane, sometimes I feel this world is upside-down. My mixcloud is actually the most followed one without a lot of advertising, not that I get listens there, but if I get to produce real serious I have the reach of a lot of dj's at my fingertips and I made friends with a lot of talented djs on there. Just like I feel about the producers I met here actually.
