So Armada just released a a remix contest. The song is definitely not going to be to everyone's taste, but it's a song I actually like and played in some mixes on the edm side.

Anyone interested can check here:

So I tried starting a melodic bassline, but I was off on at least a chord or two and i got really frustrated that I actually deleted the demo.

Can anyone hear the chord progression. I want to work on my remixing skills, because remixing is definitely one of my weakest sides.

Edit: Also EDM Tips are having their own remix competition: Massive rewards and for 1st and 2nd place he will work 1 on 1 with you to get you to a professional level.

Here you go mate, figured it out for you:

The best way to figure out a melody/chord section is to google the track key. Most electronic tracks will have a page somewhere showing you the bpm and key of a track (usually as a DJ tool for harmonic mixing) So with the key (In this case F Minor) you can narrow down the notes you'll need.

If you are still struggling, the easiest place is to start with the bass notes. To work these out, go to a breakdown or part of the track where there is no kickdrum playing and slap an EQ on it. Then look at the lowest sustained frequency spike. This should be the bass fundamental:

Once you have the bass notes, the rest of the chords are fairly simple.

If your DAW doesn't have the Hz to notes feature on it's EQ, you can use this handy converter here:

Just type in your lowest sustained frequency to the box and that will give you the bass note!
In this case, I typed in 29 and it gave me A# (Don't worry about the cents here) which is the first bass note for the chorus.

Hope this helps and good luck with the remix! :D

This makes me a bit confused, because the song is supposed to be in F minor(4a), and some of the stems seems to be in D-flat Minor(12a). I will run the the individual stems through Mixed in Key just in case and will try with a piano too, although I suck at finding the key this way.

Edit: Interestingly MIK confirms that most stems are A-flat major(4b) and F Minor(4a)

A Flat Major and F Minor are relative scales, thus use the same notes.

D flat minor is very close to F minor especially if you overlay the notes to the key, there's only a couple that are out (The C/G and B/F# respectively).

F minor is correct here.

Also, only 1 of the 3 chord progressions in the track start with the i chord (Fmin)
The main chorus melody for example starts with the iv, which is the chord of A#min. Maybe this could be what is throwing off MIK?
