South Africa's Andre Frauenstein has been undergoing something of a musical transmogrification, formerly known for his pounding productions, the man known as Lostly has made a very definite shift towards a new sound. Inspired by his renowned live shows featuring live 303 tweaking, this new incarnation focuses on a spacious, 303 driven progressive approach. With the 'less is more' mentality - We're Descending is a fine example of where Lostly is now heading. One of the most commented on tracks from Solarstone's trending Electronic Architecture 4 mix and melodically understated, it transcends genre-specific borders, being mentioned by DJs across the progressive and techno spectrums.

Fat bassline and quirky and catchy synths. Sounds energetic and subtle at the same time. This is a top release.

There is almost nothing happening in the track...the production might be solid, but melodic-ly its not interesting enough, I would take any 138 steroid tracks instead tbh :D

Boring as hell. The beatwork is so basic it hurts and everything just sound way too soft and muted. The acid isnt subtle in a good way in this even, and I love subtle acid. Really really underproduced. Isnt it funny how we get mostly over-produced or under-produced tracks?

Even me would rather lsiten to a Darren Porter track over this :O

Not feeling this at all. One of the weakest Lostly releases I can remember.

I am also left wanting more from the overall idea and it does feel a bit underdeveloped in that sense, like it just needed another phase or additional musical personality to lift it. Beatwork is indeed bit basic too. But when I first heard it in EA4 I was really taken to a good place at that point in the mix, I loved it actually. It is really clean and pleasing to my ears, I think how he's done the acid is good and melodic, rather than chaotic/intense, which I prefer. The whole thing feels very atmospheric and moody to me, its cool. 7.6/10!

This has got a good groove, but as others have mentioned, it is way too underdeveloped and lacking in variation.

It probably works well enough in a set, but as a standalone track there needs to be more going on. A missed opportunity i felt, in what could have been an interesting track.

I wanted to like it but it descends into nothing. 😉

It's a yes from me, just about. More development of the idea would certainly have taken it to those higher levels. Great style to it none the less.

One of my favorite Lostly tracks, rather solid kick and bassline, pretty interesting 303.
When I first heard it, I felt very boring, but this track stood out to me after listening to it 4-5 times.
It is true that it lacks variation, but it is a memorable track. Minimalism is not bad.
I personally prefer progressive than the mainstream uplifting / tech trance, so I think this release is better than at least 98% of all trance releases.

Recently I am participating in a project of writing a Chinese article about Lostly. While my collaborators focus more on the uplifting & tech part, I am writing the progressive part of it.
