WOW, never expect that they will back to Anjunadeep, the change of cover really make some difference. I like their sound so much, some of their tracks like Zeppelin, Shadows Movement are even trancer than trance I think.

Who is Michael Cassette?

Man of mystery, 80’s obsessive, and an Anjuna legend. After 14 years in the shadows, Michael Cassette returns to Anjunadeep with the Knight Rider EP - a collection of tracks that showcase the sound we’ve been hooked on for nearly two decades.

The Michael Cassette journey began in the early 2000s, when Finnish musicians Erkka Lempiäinen and Matti Heininen combined their talents. With Matti’s classical training and Erkka’s technical brilliance, the duo released music under several aliases, but it was Michael Cassette that truly defined their legacy.

In 2008, Michael Cassette’s ‘Shadows Movement’ landed on James Grant’s desk. Slower and more melodic than Anjuna’s typical releases, it caught immediate attention (James even joked he’d quit if it wasn’t signed). From there, Michael Cassette quickly made their mark, with support from legends like Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, SOS and Laurent Garnier.

Their debut album Temporarity (2010) became a cult classic for Anjuna fans, featuring tracks like ‘Crockett’s Theme’ and ‘Ghost In The Machine.’ But while the buzz grew, Michael Cassette’s anonymity created intrigue. Always intended to be someone other than Erkka and Matti, the Michael Cassette character helped them explore new emotional perspectives with their music. To maintain his anonymity, they even had Anjuna’s designer Andy stand in for a DJ Mag photoshoot holding a toy cassette player in front of his face.

The pair eventually took different paths - Matti pursuing award-winning classical compositions, and Erkka continuing to release “timeless bangers” (James Grant) under his own name. But now, Michael Cassette is back, revisiting their retro-futuristic roots with the Knight Rider EP.

Yeah I totally like the concept of making the cassette with MC’s tracks (nothing new as we know) but things like „Knight Rider” would sound awesome on vinyl (I also have a copy of „Temporarity”).

I’m a bit dissapointed that they didn’t make it after releasing… pretty ordinary EP from Bayer & Smith on wax last year…
