Watching their great recent B2B 3 hour set got me thinking how i much more i prefer MIKE's spacier approach to Trance, rather than Steve's more Summery, plucky style of Trance.

Both great and totally different imo, dark vs light you could say - which style appeals to you more?

Hearing MIKE in this set playing some of his really old stuff like The Blackmaster and forgotten B sides like 'Dahab' just proves how much great Trance he made throughout the years...so many tracks forgotten by modern listeners.

(old) M.I.K.E. all the way, everyday.

Thrillseekers once in awhile, but he nevr topped synaesthesia. and im not a fan of his modern sound. Nothing will ever top Synaesthesia, its just perfect.

you are becoming aware of yourself as gaymaster

I prefer the dark M.I.K.E style, but sometimes also like to listen to The Steve's classics as well, especially Insigma and En-Motion stuff and other "less summery" tunes.

Gotta be MIKE overall, he has so many good productions. In the last 5 years though I'd say Thrillseekers has made the stronger tracks though.

Great set btw, just finished it

MIKE, no contest at all for me. The Thrillseekers produced some mega classics, but MIKE's discography is on another level.

M.i.k.e for sure. Always thought Steve copied mike's style on a few occasions to, not to say that's a bad thing.

Old M.I.K.E. no contest, so many aliases, so many classics, so much versatility and creativity. New stuff is really stale as expected with most. Really nice seeing both of them here spinning vinyl though!

Thrillseekers doesn't seem to have anything other then a couple of nice remixes and aliases like En-Mothion, Rapid Eye and of course our dear Synaesthesia. He could have been easily be one of those 99/00" producers that move on with life. He either have alot of backing somewhere or just the right moment to make this far but definitely when comes to production merits he's not even close to MIKE

What a stupid comment lol - you dont need to have any backing - hes always made high quality productions like the recent Hydra album, and has stuck to his old sound and roots unlike many other producers.

This was comparing the two styles of Trance and which you prefer.

Yeah, lets keep it a bit classier here?

Just to keep steve in this friendly vs fight, check these out. He got some gems also. (i think he's aware of M.I.K.E.'s discography and influence) If we're talking"modern day" stuff I thought I did like Steve's stuff. but ultimately I dont't. Amber was good, but not great. Its like a 7.7-7.9 maybe. The other Hydra stuff I find almost embarrasing, when it comes to cheese. Just listen to this melody here, it sounds like trance for toddlers Crystalline (Extended Mix). Haha, keeping it classy. Just comments and critisism, no hate, just opinion.I almost even prefer the Thrillseekers modern downtempo stuff more and his Escape album over the new Hydra. (the downtempo parts on Alterted state are also solid for the most part) Maybe he should focus on trying out some more downtempo pop ballads. They are great! The Hydra album is almost like a new-age trance album to me. It has some "classic" vibes, good clean production (almost too clean) but it has all these lulling piano fills and his "infamous" guitar synth, which im not a fan of. So in that case i prefer all-in on cheese with vocals and pop-vibe like in Escape over this "western" new-age cheesy part trance, part not-trance vibe. The downtempo stuff and slow vocal pop ballads is where Steve has been shining in the modern day IMO.

MIKE is a top 5 producer based on his productions before 2006 when he went shit. Thrillseekers on the other hand, while 99% of todays classic producers went shit a long time ago he stayed loyal to his classic sound which i respect alot.

fair enough. IMO his hydra album 'high quality production' is just too much credit for off brand chicane/salt tank which reminds me of some goa/psy albums in the 90s which are just filler tracks consisting of squelchy laser kicks, bubbling acid and sawtooth rhythm that gets stale after awhile...
