Couple of new ones from me on J00F, in a similar vein to ‘Relinquish’. Longer previews aren’t up on J00F SoundCloud yet so got to rely on Beatport for now.
Enjoy : )

This is pretty much how I feel about them, Icaro is very 90's influenced psytrance wobbles all the way through but Assonance became something quite different, as I made it more layers came in that worked - all based on the piano chords. My fav bit is at the end where the full melody has a mini breakdown then it comes back with the lead acid screaming over the top of it by the end - sadly cut off the beatport samples....Looking forward to listening to these in full. Both sound pretty fuckin' nice so far.
Strangely enough, after listening to Icaro and upon starting the preview of Assonance, I thought I would prefer Icaro. But Assonance gets so much more interesting as it progresses!
Ha yeah! Solarstone pitched ‘Icaro’ up +6 for Pure Trance Radio. I like 130 BPM, just feels right, and if people want it faster, that’s what the pitch fader is for!Assonance sounds cool
wonder if joof have a poll these days about tracks cannot be more than 130 bpm.hmmmmm?
Very kind, but there are waaaaaaaaay better producers than me. I think that’s the curse, you never think it’s good enough. Keeps you pushing for better though, which is goodNarel you are one of the best in the scene right now I think.
I was hoping J00F would drop it in Melbourne in May but didn’t. Glad you noted the relentless nature of it, I was going for that mid 90’s psytrance vibe that just kept modulating away and adding a lot of new soundsIcaro is a beast! Love the energy and relentlessness. Man would love to hear this live.
Assonance
Icaro
I’ve just about finished the follow up EP to this which I hope to get out on J00F Recordings too - ‘Ex Acid Machina’ which is very heads down 4am acid stuff and ‘Six Moves Sideways’ which is classic Platipus with some prog’ trance and 96/97 Scot Project going on. That will have a Coredata mix too .Very impressed again with your work @Narel. What else do you have coming, anything on Forescape?
I think you are talking about the second clap? There’s a basic 909 clap then a big one over the top of the second clap in each bar. That’s a different clap sample that I reverb’d the shit out of, then re-sampled and chopped the reverb tail off to just the right length so it sat right. It’s got a compressor on it to give it some transient snap, then it and the 909 clap are sent to a mixer bus channel for eq, saturation and another gentle compressor to ‘glue’ them together.@Narel
What is that soundthat comes in like every 8 bars from 1.29? Hits the same time as the snare i believe? It sounds like some ASMR-heavy shit haha. Did you sample something or is it just a really tweaked snare/clap sound? In Assonance. It adds a ton to the overall sound-experience imo.

Heard it done a variety of ways on a few tracks so wanted to try it.
