It's the squared synth itself that is keeping me from really liking them, ironically enough. In general, I'd say that they're not bad, I prefer the original, too.

I really don't think I've ever heard the original mix, not even in any sets. For me this was always about the tech mix, ever since I first heard it on Tiësto's Elements Of Life DVD.

Yeah, it's more balanced and has more variation in the bass. The tech mix could have been much stronger with the bass pattern of the original mix, but the way it turned out feels like it's missing something.
