German producer which also spins trance records in clubs. This is some kind of alternative stuff but at the end you definetly get those 90s trance vibe with gated voice synthesis.

Its not real "trance" tho I guess but it has its elements. I dont know why but I kind of love this "fuck trance" cover. I talked to the producer, he loves trance. ;)

'Gateway' is a transcendent journey, dosed with a utopian vision. Organic progressive breaks and a mycelial 303 acid line, infused with euphoric beauty, all maintaining the organic touch that really defines Luke's music. 'Gateway' is best defined as a simulation of ascending the stairs to the higher plane.

Vinyl-only EP from Priori and Ciel
I'd buy it myself (only 12 buckos for 4 slappers) but I don't have the space for a turntable in my current place

If your understanding of trance is what Ferry Corsten has played throughout his career, then sure, none of this is trance. But trance doesn't only consist of hands in the air glowstick waving DJ worship anthems. Enigma State is one style of oldschool trance, but there are *many* more beyond that.

For sure it is coming in many forms, the JOOF style of 05-10 was my go to for so long. But even with Trance being diverse, what's being shared here predominantly is not old-school Classic trance, bar 1 or 2 tracks even now and then.

"Old-school" "Classic" means that it sounds old and is one of those styles we used to have. Whether or not we consider breakbeat house as trance is one thing, but its doing the music a disservice by saying this new bandcamp stuff is "classic" sounding. It's not, it sounds fresh, original, modern and unique. UTE is not classic sounding either and thats the closest new Trance stuff we have for the most part. These tracks you guys are sharing are forward thinking and original. I brought up Enigma state because it is clearly a classic Trance style, and thats what this thread title says.

The Forward Slash Its most common use is to mean “or” when presenting two alternatives. Old School OR Classic Trance

This whole thread came about as people were noticing the trance-infused sounds coming out of the ravey 90's stuff from the last five years. Old school indeed, because the roots of trance are in techno, house, and rave music. Acid house for instance, can be considered trance when there is more focus on the melody. You see a lot of that ambiguity in the tracks in this thread. Do they contain breaks? Often sure, but there is a lot of subtle (and not so subtle) melodies banging throughout. For me, one of the clearest bridges is through the use of psy/goa sounds in a lot of this music. The atmosphere, the build, the acid synth leads, all components of good proggy psy/goa trance.

I agree that this is new, forward thinking, and unique. But it really does call back to the early 'Old School' days where trance was whatever evoked that response, the euphoria, the hypnosis, which most of these tracks do. Read interviews with these producers, they are calling back to their favorite stuff from the mid 90s, but bringing new ideas and production techniques as well. And this all appeals to trance fans b/c it has the spirit of the beginning and none of the baggage of what trance is supposed to be.

In short, just enjoy it, and don't try to label it. This thread is filled with eclectic wonder.

I think this comes from just a lack of listening, because 5 years ago I may or may not have said the same thing. If the older stuff you've heard is primarily anthem trance or the stuff coming out of JOOF in 2005 (which tbh is still not quite as "classic" as you can get considering the label was founded in 1999), then sure, this wouldn't be "classic trance" to you because this isn't taking inspiration from that. But I assure you, there's stuff out there - I mean take a look at TRANCEBLASTER's pre-1995 thread, plenty of stuff fits the bill (or at least the less melodic stuff). Take a gander at the "early days" forum section of this site and you'll hear some. Trance Classics (the youtube page) is definitely biased toward anthems and things with lots of melodies but I bet they have some older darker stuff as well. Progressive Classics on the other hand is loaded with stuff in this vein.
UTE is not classic sounding either and thats the closest new Trance stuff we have for the most part.
How can you say this when Blue Planet Corporation exists? Or honestly, like most Goa?

First preview's up for Odyssee's first actual EP.

Posted this in the trancemaster thread but figure it's worth sharing in here as well, from nthng, one of those mysterious DJ Healer types. Normally makes ambient/dub techno (also trance under trancemaster) but had a trancier offering under his main alias last year:

wake up new spray dropped!
Tune at 28 mins and 40 mins are IDs he's played before, both of which I want baaaad. 28 sounds a little like Suki/Sniper1 and 40 I might guess is Spray himself.

Also it's not normal to post JOOF in here but the new Coredata fits quite well. Honestly amazes me that he's predominantly a full-on psy producer.

Interesting one.

not even noticed - Raval, fun acid filled prog trance

new amniote/UTE fundraiser comp, some goodies on here from Omformer, Oprofressional

This one gives me big vibes of the 1993 track weeping waste by renegade legion

Not at all trance but I adore this new one from Baby G

I made a new breaks thread the other day to share stuff like this ;) I noticed a lot of breaks being shared in here so maybe that can work to showcase some of these gems in a better spot. Breaks def making nice waves again in the underground again, so good to see.

Will do! Unlike the case above though, some breaks tracks are also trance, and may still end up here.

Another really great release from SpaceTrax. Hard to pick a favorite from this one, the EP is pretty stacked.

The man of the moment, Reflex Blue, with another solid release. A genre bender, seems mostly in progressive/trance territory. Kangaroo Jack a standout for me.

A nice floaty prog trance release. I think I found MerlinBerlin through this thread.
