Oliver Prime - Radiance (2004)

The track which catapulted Oliver Prime to recognition. Without Radiance there is no "Netherworld (Oliver Prime Remix)"
Everytime I go to post a favorite of mine some has done so haha. Not surprising with this one, its so special in execution and its mood. Fantastic.
One of his weaker tracks. I like the melodic parts but the buildup and the outro are boring. The percussions and the bassline is not very exciting, doesnt have the same drive as his lsg or beetseekers remix. 6/10
I thnk the exact opposite. This is so much more interesting in terms of development and good layering goes. His netherworld remix is imo just monotonous chugging with the netherworld break in the middle. That one has an amazing outro though. Here you feel some sense of build/layering. It keeps morphing into something new as it goes and the outro is just as good as it gets. keeps on stripping away elements in a classy way until it fades away.

Strange. I've heard multiple versions of Netherworld (including the original, of course), and I think Oliver Prime's version is the only single one that manages to create a proper build-up and transition to the central, core part of the melody. The experience feels seamless. However, while listening to any other version (yes, including the original), I always feel like they are disjointed because everything that leads up to the main melody feels forced and not in harmony with the main melody. It's just there to be there / without serving any purpose aside from making the track longer.
Radiance stood out as fresh and interesting when I first heard it. After multiple listens though I wouldn't give it more than 6/10. He tries to be too clever with the production and the effects, and the musicality suffers. It becomes too messy and loses its way after a promising start. Nothing really happens in the outro which goes on for about 3 minutes. And the mixdown is quite muddy, percussion and the kick sound muffled.
The remix of Netherworld is better but doesn't compare to the original which is a work of art.

Frankly, I feel similarly about a lot (certainly far from all, but a healthy amount) of LSG tunes. They have brilliant ideas and chunks of them are fantastic, but the composition feels a bit ad-hoc at times; something about the flow of the track feels unnatural, as if Lieb just kept adding more and more tune to space things out because it *needed* to be at least 9 minutes. (and don't get me started on The Digital Blonde tunes)

I don't think its muddy or muffled, but it is atmospheric because of the subdued and murky feeling he choose for the track parts. Its layered very well for its build too, it takes its time. Its an acquired taste this one, but I love it.
