One of the most recognizable melodies in trance. Still actual in my playlist. Melody is based on Edward Artemyev soundtrack to film Siberiade.

Space Club Mix

Trailer Trash Remix

Wellenrausch Remix

Didn't love it as a kid in 2001. But definitely became a big classic for me.

The bleepy melody isn't what attracts me most. It's the layering with the pads, the spacey sounds, the submelodies floating around.

Great track.

Had no idea it was remake of an old Russian film track

Liked this track as a kid, will never go for it now, falling into the 'over-heard' category. Still great though

I read a rather romantic story in a music magazine around the time that Oakenfold was handed a promo of this track while he was DJing. He quickly listened to some of it on his headphones and immediately put it into the set he was playing at the time. I assumed this might not be fully accurate, but wikipedia seems to back it up.

Paul Oakenfold signed the record to his label Perfecto Records upon hearing it when he was playing a set at Gorky Park in Moscow. During an episode of his Planet Perfecto Podcast in January 2021, Oakenfold revealed that PPK handed him the record, which he listened to it on his headphones, and signed the record immediately.[3]

My favourite version is the Wellenrausch remix! :) Heard it for the first time in a Scott Bond set and it was labeled wrongly asa different version.
After a long search I finally found the correct one :)

I never liked it and still don't. I appreciated it of course and what it did for the scene.

I just never connected with it when it made waves and in pop charts.

I heard it back in 2001 in an Australian current Affairs show where they were playing it in the background. Amazing track

All the links are dead.

Anyways, I was listening to this yesterday and I personally think this gets better with every 5 years that passes. Its so well made and arranged/structured maybe simple on the surface but really not if you listen carefully. I always pic up on new details, fills, rhytmic patterns, added textures/melodies in quality trance. I dont know with you guys but when you listen to a track you most often only focus on one or two or three parts, one groove, one riff, one line, bassline, kick, melody, break, the usual stuff. Especally with tracks you play often and like .You hear the whole track but your brain doesnt pick up on everything even if you think you hear it all, unintentionally ofc. Some sounds just dissapear in the mix wheter you like it or not depending on your current mood/mental state and how much you pay attention.

So I more often than not try to listen to a track I like differently than last time, ignoring the stuff I usally pick up on the surfacelevel. Very gratifying experience imo. And this track def has some of that stuff to discover.

A few noticable sounds/changes/added stuff in this thats not always obvious if you just casually listen to it.

- the bassline at the start is great isnt it? Well, its not gonna return later. simple one note bassline,
but very effective use of rhythm to make it groovin/driving. It only continues to the first break around the 1 min mark. Atleast its not at all noticable for me later or it could be obscured by all the other layers.

-0.30, hear those shakin/rattling/industrious drum fills that ar being faded subtly into the mix in the background? Can easily be ignored on first listen.

-1,40. Hear that bleeping melody? haha, jk. But i bet you missed the clicks/pulse beat rhythm supporting the said bleepy melody in background.

-2.07, I also bet you missed the angelic/gated(?) synth that fades in around here that back/counterbalance the main bleepy melodys rhythm on your first or second listen.

from there on its just a masterclass in layering in more and more stuff without it being overcrowded, so pay attention to everything that happens around the bleeping melody.

I bet theres some more noticable stuff/changes to pick up that I havn't, so please update me if you've pick up on something else. Everyone listens in their own way/pace ofc and overanalysing/ excess listening to stuff can be both a curse and gift. Just was in the mood to write this.

Think im done with this track for awhile ;)
