An absolute masterpiece. In my top 10 list of progressive trance tracks without vocals, this track would definitely be there. I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread with this track yet.

Trance these days is just people with no ideas, but copying each other with no distinctive sound, dont get me wrong theres probably 2-3 tracks or artists across the year were you think ye thats abit decent that has an old skool feel to it, but really you just cant compare to trance between 1997 - 2006 imo,

Always interesting to sense a UK/Europe divide when it comes to favorite Probspot tracks. This was actually released in 2004 on Markus Schulz Coldharbour Selections Vol 1 in the Netherlands, within weeks of the Foreplay EP being released on Lost Language in the UK.
Personally I rate Foreplay and Midnight much higher than Blueberry.

that's true, and it's something in particular that I'd be ok finding myself whining about. this playful plucky vibe is very rare these days, unfortunately it's not popular anymore to have the plucky bells as the leading synth, most of the time it's some canonical saw or something like that
I wouldn't expect it to change coz it requires more raw musical talent to handle it this way, while any uninspired shit sounds 'trancy' if it's played with a sawlead
My favorite track from Probspot is actually "Swedish Cowboy". But "Blueberry" became, one might say, the starting point in my preferences for the style and sound of progressive trance music. What we can now hear under the name deep trance is not at all similar to the deep trance of the period 1999-2007, now it is rather a mixture of melodic techno, with a lot of robotic sounds, often with a cold, depressing atmosphere, often without any memorable melody and giving preference to minimalist sound. And by the way, why do producers now not use or rarely use “stretching bass”? Why has it suddenly become unpopular. In my opinion, this element has a very deep immersive effect.
the thing is it often doesn't sound the best on a big sound system, creating more like a constant heavy low frequency buzz (or even a partial sound disappearance) with all kinds of phasing issues due to reflections within the room etc, which is why the 16th rolling 'plucky' bass is safer to use and also it sounds just more dynamic.
also with a reese (that's how it's called) bass you need more effort to drums and percussion to keep the energy high while with 16th rolling bassline any sloppy clap+hat pair would do it decent in terms of energy

I met Özgur Can last week, and he was somewhat annoyed at me and others who always want to talk about his old music because he has tried to distance himself from the trance sound ever since. He feels like trance is a very conservative genre, where people only want to hear old tracks. I couldn't disagree with him more. Trance is probably the least conservative genre on this planet, just compare the first and the last episode of ASOT. What are the similarities? Perhaps Özgur feels it's conservative because of a few people like me who always want to talk about the old days. I told him that people want to hear his old music because that type of music hasn't been made since then. He disagreed with me and said that today's melodic techno is pretty much the same, which to me is like comparing apples with oranges.

Complexity wise, it's a very simple track. But if mixed in, especially in-key, it's got an impact from the moment you hear it on the floor. Such crazy energy. Whenever it's played people perk up, that stabby synth piercing through the crowd with that wobbly bit now and then. The build is great, and bass is amazing on a big clean system too.

I wonder what tracks he was referring to and he was probably shielding himself because he works for Armada so he has to keep things quiet or downplay deny or even lie to keep his job. Bullshit Trance is not the conservative genre out there. Yes, they are fanatics like myself but that's with all genres of dance music out there.
