The 'Sleep D' duo is releasing an new album in june, the first single sounds superb:

Sleep D - Planet Waves

Having released 4 EPs of mind-altering club tackle since 2019’s ‘Rebel Force’, the duo overcome second album syndrome, boiling down their chaos with a more developed sense of songwriting. Never banging one drum, ‘Electronic Arts’ mirrors the anything goes mania of their DJ sets, tactfully shifting through different sounds and styles. Tempos intensify and decelerate, at times pushing the threshold to 150 bpm from docile canine dreamscapes to full tilt Space Invaders in AR mind games.

Largely built on road tested material from their live performances, the album is a tangible Butter Sessions gathering, busting out the gate with Martian rave initiation Planet Waves, Outdoor System’s polyrhythmic beatdown and the Orb-like hero dose affirmations of Sunrise In The Crater (I Exist). While ‘Electronic Arts’ is otherwise a self-dependent effort, Punch Drunk is brewed ever more potent by the hypnagogic vocals and lucid trumpet cycles of former futsal team member YL Hooi. Their unified energy incidentally manifests a profound matrix of ambient techno, motorik, Don Cherry and Everything But the Girl.

Also touching on apocalyptic doof and minimal, the album is not exclusively peak time with Maryos Syawish and Corey Kikos’ specialty curveballs also playing their part. From Village To Empire finds the duo rooting down in Syawish’s heritage with a tapestry of purposefully deployed Iraqi and Syrian ethnographic samples and field recordings, dubbed within range of Muslimgauze and On-U Sound. As minimal techno finale Textile trails off into footsteps wandering back to base camp with a satisfied exhale, one wonders where Sleep D’s existential pathfinding could possibly take us next?

01. Planet Waves
02. Outdoor System
03. Sunrise In The Crater (I Exist)
04. Strange Sounds
05. From Village To Empire
06. Punch Drunk ft YL Hooi
07. Textile 8. Happiness
09. Hector (Dreaming)
10. Hockey

Quite nice. At first thought it was gonna be a straight up house cut (and better in the house thread), but it does have some trancey elements that come in that make it a little more interesting. Will def check out the album, thanks.

Alright, turned this up while driving back.

Best hour I spent in a long time!

But I wasn't sure if that was just the first impression (my car's sound system is quite good), so before creaming over this thread with excitement, I decided to listen to it again, just to see if it's true.

And it's even better.

This is how you make electronic music!!!

With groove, with pace, with ideas, with some absolutely fantastic synths...WITH BALLS!

Grips you in, doesn't let go. Only gets better. Can stand head to head with what it's inspired by.

From Village to Empire and Punch Drunk are some of my favs, they just scream Banco de Gaia. Hockey is pure early energetic 90s awesomeness. These three are some of my highlights so far, but honestly every single track is phenomenal.

This is turning into one of my favourite (modern) albums so far. The amount of quality is insane.

Will definitely be spinning this a couple of more times again.

I'm amazed at how many styles they throw into the album and how effortless and natural it all feels. The pacing is fantastic as well, and the tracks feel like they all have just the right amount of content. The album's got flow from start to finish too, which as far as modern trance albums go, is basically unheard of. I think this takes the cake over the D.Tiff + Roza album from last year for "best housey nutrance album" yet.

Punch Drunk might be my favorite, with the noodling trumpet in the background. That's a sound I never thought could work - now it's making me want to dig out my tenor sax and noodle over the rest of the album.

A deserved TOTW for Punch Drunk. Although I feel I could put any one of these 10 fabulous tracks and it would still be true.

Had one listen so far while working and thought it was really good. Need to pay more attention on the second listen to find the favorites. Very cool and mixed style album.

Had a couple of listens now. Like it, but wouldn't say there is any one song that really grabs me. Def going to give it more tries though. Preferring some other underground albums this year so far.
