with a old school twist, or at least thats what I was aiming for.

So i've got two hobbies, music making and crappy windsurf video edits. I had a couple of days off and decided to, for a change, make/use an own production under a surf-video edit and try and match the feel.

be interrested in you guys's thoughts on this, and please. don't hesitate to be ruthless.

You should make a video of you DJing on your surfboard.

Anyhow, the track does have that old school feel, from a couple of different eras, even. Loving the sounds here, would love this turning into a full track (along with a pure 90s trance version without the "tech"). Nothing to be ruthless about here.

You on the surf board dude?!

Good energy in the track, matches the surf skills. Sounds like an intro to game or something. Id like some variation , maybe a pad, or change up here or there, but it's listenable and driving.

Well to be honest, I hadn't watched the video at all. Just wanted to make a little decimal joke.

But...!! Now I did listen! :p So, not only is it a video of you on the surfboard (quite cool btw), but you also made this new track?

I really like the track. It's quite summery indeed. I like how the commantary isn't really understandable, it's not loud enough for that. But that's good. Now it's just in the background. I would render also a version without them though, if you were going to release it.

I think the track lacks a bit action in the mid-low area. Not the sub/kick, but something right around those.

Also, on that main synth "ta dááá da" (that one). I would add some more delay, (which uses the stereo spectrum more), that will make it more bouncy. As if it's more notes, rather than just those 3.

As for mixdown, I would crank up the volume on all your synth-elements. Specially the one in the build-up (the little plucky one, not the one that turns into the "main" one). A good reference track for mixdown would be: Energy Reflect - Flashbang. Similar vibes to your track imo.

Anyway, pretty awesome! Real score: 8.2

Loving this, great foundation and more. I repeated it a few times. I hope you decide to make this into a full track.... in fact you definitely should.

Some feedback - The spoken vocal sample didn't work for me, I actually went and checked I didn't have a separate youtube tab playing in the background as it felt like I'd left some show on. It doesn't feel cohesive with the mix, neither background or at the front. I am a big fan of spoken samples in tracks btw, but it has to be done artistically, atmospherically, timed with the musical flow, maybe with some mysticism feel or effort to manipulate the sample to something memorable (think Total Seperation Space Maneuvers). I think a sample could still work well in that breakdown

Speaking of breakdown. I am loving the synths you used here (and building up to it), and i'm loving that it's a chill and atmospheric break. Sometimes it gives me a Solid Session Janeiro feel. Excellent. I think it could develop even further/longer actually (I wanted more), with room for another synth change of the existing ones, a new synth, new mood or idea to start creeping in and taking me to the next level or emotional idea. Currently when the beats came back in I felt like I returned back to a build up section again, with some energy and emotion getting lost, it didn't take me anywhere new or higher. Would love to see it take its time to do that.

oh I definitly will, Just not sure about the format yet. Right now its comfortably dumped it in the folder "possible avalon62 album 2" along with some other projects.

The vocal samples are those of a recording from a surf competition, So thats one artistic element that will stay :p. but you're right in that its basically slapped on top of the breakdown/buildup without any (significant) work in terms of sequencing timing (or levelling for that matter). Both you and @Magnevi are correct in pointing out the somewhat sloppyness/utter lazyness on my part there. 🤭

And I agree with you that the breakdown is a bit repeatative and needs an additional musical element. whether that be Strings as @MDD suggested, a hightened focus on the existing synths as @Magnevi pointed out or as you suggested, a whole new synth/element.

thanks for the detailed critique👍

genuinly, you lot won't believe how glad I am this isn't an ego-stroking ASOT'esq forum, every penny well worth spend on re-viving this place

I didn't find it repetitive, the opposite in fact. I wanted it to go for some more bars and build into something else that carries into the next 'drop'. Glad to hear it will become a full track at some point. Really hope the lush elements are given as much prominence as the great percs/groove you have going.

Reminds me of the older Quivver tunes or something released on Platipus circa 1998.

Really great tune. Love the groove and the production is tight!

Nice work!
