Browsing around YouTube and saw that Trance Wax did end up releasing an Extended Mix of "Rivers" from his album. Hopefully he'll release more extended cuts as a lot of us were saying that his tracks in that album were super short.

Meh, it end up becoming something more of a copying/nostalgia cliched styled track.

I like it, kinda of love it. Sounds like they intended it to, A homage to Saltwater. What's most surprising is that because it doesnt use a stupid psy bassline like most trance nowadays its 138 but sounds slower..... I dont really care about BPM's its just an observation because its something I miss. This and S3000 are refreshing releases this week! More of this please producers :)

At first I find it very nice but after some moments I am left feeling that something doesn't sound right and I cant put my finger on it. The trance idea is there and its nice, a good Chicane homage but I believe there to be a subtle but significant difference in the overall production approach when comparing this to old Chicane, that being that everything is far too clean. It feels odd to list that as a criticism but where is the organic balaeric and human feel? The melody feels extremely weak to me, not because of the notes chosen but because it feels square, robotic, template its is deliverence.

These Ibiza tracks used to be so expressive and warm, they had a structure that built, with many components arriving and leaving. Chicane was one of the best so maybe its unfair to compare. This is the extended mix, its 5:38 long.

I dont think its about sounding too clean. Saltwater sounds much more clean and all the elements feels present and warm in its attack. This one is too reverby and wishy-washy in its approach. It also has this bouncy cheesy rave-vibe to it that kinda ruin it. Its bpm is too high. Moyas vocals are ok but end up sounding more of a operatic kind of forgettable vocal than in saltwater. Also too reverby and the different elements doesnt really support eachother. The vocal are there but just feels like its in the background.

The structure and overall compositons of the song is too simple aswell. Its almost the exact same percussion/bass in all the lenght of the song. Theres only like 3 synths being added in the middle part. And its not that memorable.

With all that said, theres worse tracks out there, but this still isnt good. Dont do these cheesy "tribute" tracks :p

Clean may not have been the right choice of words. The melody sounds like it was made from a machine, which of course all music is, but this truly feels a homogenised digital output. The notes are square and clipped. But yes the structure is simple as you say, there is no build which is tragic. Trance is about building and teasing emotional states.

I think you summed it up perfectly if I’m honest, in this post and the one above m. Everything about it is there on paper, but why does it not feel right? I do like it (just about). Maybe it’s as you say the squareness or processed nature of the track
