Just cleaning out my laptop a bit. Deleting all the unnecessary files and apps, and reorganizing my downloads.

But there's still so much to do. Lots of unnecessary plugins and samples, lots of music I haven't even listened to in more than 5 years...

The music projects themselves are the hardest. There's hundreds of them, and since I used a ton of different plugins and samples, I don't even know which one can even be opened now, let alone usable. And like 98% of them are pure trash that should just be deleted. But it takes a lot of work for those 2% that are worth saving for me to be able to start from scratch, which is what I want.

Clean up your PC regularly, boys... Don't be like Gagi.

I love the little "slice of life" details, haha.

Submitted my first graduate application! Found a few professors at Illinois that I'd like to worth with for the PhD. Next up: a few schools that have Dec. 1st deadlines, yikes. Fortunately my statement of purpose is done, so all I need to change is the section where I talk about groups I'd like to join.

Dec 1st. update: 5 completed so far!

Ever since I first moved to the U.S for a summer in 2013 I always wanted to move and live my life there. 7+ years later and after 2 years of applying for a green card I finally made it, arriving last night back in Minneapolis, where it all started. Feel great today.

For real?
That's pretty quick.
I guess that makes you one of the closest trancefix members to me, at least geographically, haha.

Feel like I'm gonna be sick. Same thing that happened to me this summer.

First of all, feels like I have a bit less energy (sleepier; really feels like I have a slightly higher body temperature but without the chills/fever). My throat feels a bit sore, but not much really. And my skin is a bit more sensitive to touch, especially on the back. There's a hint of cough like two or three times a day. Last time around, I was also feeling slightly short of breath, but maybe I was looking for the symptoms a bit too much there.

I haven't been tested. I'm with my brother here, but we rarely see each other because he's currently in his night owl phase. Last time around, he was fine.

Haven't really seen a lot of people in the past week or so. Last week, I had 3 gym sessions, and I haven't had close contact with anyone - the gym is big enough and there's only one or two (if that) other people. I was home for the weekend, with only my mom there, she's fine; I assume her symptoms would show much much earlier than mine. On Sunday I visited my sister and her kids. She and her kids are fine. Also drove with my friend for like 90 minutes, he's fine and already had it earlier this year. On Tuesday, I went for a haircut (with a mask on, of course), and I visited a colleague from college, who lives with his GF and both of them already had COVID.

Don't know what to think at this point. Getting tested is a suicide mission - the lines are long, plus the virus has really caught up here (50+ dead and 7000+ infected every day - with the real estimate being 10x higher), so I wouldn't wanna be exposed to it, if case I don't have it. On the other hand, this does happen to me every once in a while. I haven't had a serious illness in 4-5 years, but I've had similar experiences in the years past. Like once or twice a year, I have similar symptoms and it passes after a few days without treatment.

Welp,
After trying to switch fields to computer science/software development (& failing at it) and sending in a couple of applications to PhD programs in chemical engineering in the United States, I finally landed a job in my field.
Guess it's time to start a career...

Yeah, CS/software engineering jobs didn't like me. I actually got into one PhD program, but I'm taking the job instead!
Ty! and lmao

What made you decide that?
Well, the specific job that I landed is precisely the subfield I wanted to get into while I was studying. To get it, most people spend a few years doing process engineering and then eventually transition into the role. In my case, I was able to get the offer right out of college, so I can start with that role right away!
As for rejecting graduate school: By the end of the program, I'd be 29, 30 years old with no practical work experience :( So the job makes the most sense. If a few years down the line I realize I miss academic research, I can always reapply!

That makes sense. My friend's sister, who graduated in biochemistry and earned a master's degree, worked in or close her field of expertise for a few years, then got an offer for a paid PhD, along with working in a company that's close to or owned by college, so she took it.

That's awesome. I had forgotten that in Europe you could pursue industry-funded PhDs.

The scholarships are nothing new, companies can pay if they see the potential, but you're obligated (morally or by law) to work there for 3-5 years after you finish studies. Some companies, closely related to professors and deans (especially in my field and on my college) even get to pick and choose the curriculum, based on what their companies need.

All of my symptoms are gone and I've recovered, but now I can't smell shit. Literally! Was on the throne, it was such a weird experience.

The only things I can smell are perfume and deodorant, but only just. My nose is a bit stuffed as well but I'm not having a lot of trouble breathing. Gonna do the serology test at some point.
