    The atmospheric goa/psytrance thread

More or less a continuation/off-shot of my trance to chill out to thread, but this thread is focused specifically on modern goa/psytrance with a strong focus on deep, atmospheric sounds and melodies. Note: this is not a progpsy or full-on psytrance thread. Artifact303 - Apex [2021] From the...

Asirion - Path to Sychelia [2012]

Recent find of mine while digging through atmospheric goa trance. Exceptional track!

    Technikal - Terminal Velocity [2007]

Exceptional hard trance from the early YouTube era. This track, along with a bunch of hard and anthem trance from back then, went viral and gained a small “cult following” after it was included in “top trance tracks of all time” compilations

Axis - So In Love [1995]

Excellent classic hard trance. It was one of the first songs from that era I ever heard. Was always torn about this being happy hardcore, but I think it’s in that blurry space where it could be both happy hardcore and old-school hard trance.

Uhm Jung Hwa - Come On (Techno remix) [2000]

This track will likely be new to everyone here. Hailing from South Korea, this little-known “techno” song was the opener for Korean pop star Uhm Jung Hwa’s 2000 album Queen of Charisma. This is one of the rare combinations of trance with pop music while still feeling like trance. There aren’t...

    Miro - Spaceman [1994]

Miro of “By Your Side” fame. Hard mix is a classic trance banger. Trance mix is good, but imo the Hard mix is still better.

Starecase - First Floor Deadlock [1999]

Peeked back at trance for a bit and found the Divided by Zero mix in an old playlist, which is absolutely nuts. Some of the better progressive trance I’ve heard. Love the acid sounds, as well. The original mix is breakbeats-trance. In this release, the Divided by Zero mix is the true highlight...

    Hibernate - Mane Sonitus [2001]

Very nice uplifting trance with lovely synths. I like how the breakdown uses lo fi high-hats and beats, but then switches them up to hi fi high-hats once the main melody kicks in!

Toltecnica - Volando en Alas del Intento [1999]

Mexican (progressive) trance. I was surprised to find out that it exists. I didn't know someone, somewhere in Mexico made anything like this. In style, it's closer to ~1996-1997-era progressive trance, not so much its contemporary anthem trance. It feels like something PvD would have liked to...

    K90 - Deliverance [1999]

Really cool hard trance track. Very Transa-esque and would have fit right in with Hook Recordings.

    Science Deal - Naenia [2010]

Beautiful, dark, haunting melodic trance. Original mix: Catching Dreams remix (released 2021, but likely produced long before) Tranciest version of this song. Angelica S remix This version leans more on the ambient/downtempo aspects of the song. It does have trance elements, but I...

    Urapeful - A Lonely Soul [2015]

Interesting Airbase-sounding song that popped up on my Spotify. This is kind of what I always hoped trance would sound like, with dramatic orchestral and synthetic breakdowns that have a darker vibe (instead of a lighter Andy Blueman / Gaia type sound). Definitely a great example of modern trance.

PPK - My Heart (Vadim Zhukov Remix) [2009]

Awesome track featuring Kate Cameron (the singer of the Chakra tracks). It really doesn't feel like it's from 2009, but instead from 2001-2002, lol. The original mix is more like progressive house.

Paul van Dyk - Evolution [2012]

IMO, Paul van Dyk's last great trance track. Evolution was a bonus track from the 2012 album Evolution. It's not even listed in the official tracklist, and I'm guessing this happened because PvD/Vandit couldn't clear the rights for the sample in this track. As far as I know, the riff is from a...

    Random music thoughts thread

We might as well have a space where you can drop off your random, music-related thoughts! Chase Childhood Monsters is one of Airwave's hardest tracks, and it's too bad that it only has maybe 1.5k listens total on YouTube. It's an undiscovered masterpiece.

    Riialto - Switcher [2018]

Every now and them you run into a steroid trancer that... actually sounds nice to hear and feels old-school. This track would have been at home in 2008-2010 trance DJ sets. I like how it has a simple but catchy melody and a decent ambiance. The producer clearly put in a lot of effort in the...

Oshlay - Disconnected [Nota Bene Records] (Released Jan. 2022)

I never post in this section, so I hope I wrote the title in the correct format? Just ran into this album from a super obscure producer and thought it fit with this forum's musical taste. It has the exact same aesthetic as early to mid-90s trance, which is pretty cool and crazy to hear in 2022...

    John Askew - Recalibrate [2018]

A surprisingly enjoyable track by Askew. It sort of builds upon the ideas of his Stresstest remix with his early 2000s work for a party/festival track that is just nice to hear without feeling overwhelming or overly dramatic.

    Human Blue - Therpischore [2006]

Found this track while looking for "chill trance." Although it doesn't fit the style of that thread, it's still awesome. Love to hear the more melodic, morning-style of progressive psytrance.

    20-12 - Fumanchu [2010]

It's insane that trance this good was released in 2010. BTW, 20-12 is the alias of Andy Falconer, the studio engineer who worked with The Orb in the early 90s (of "Little Fluffy Clouds" fame). Fumanchu is the last track of 20-12's 2010 album Necessary Means. It's straightforward but engaging...
