Remember when they said they didn’t support project 2025? (Watching it be rolled out via EO and draft laws).

Edit: And 25% blanket tariffs on Mexico, Canada, 10% on China start tomorrow.

Surely Trump’s position on Ukraine makes this all worth it tho…

He's doing everything he said he would do, which was a much needed shock to the status quo and the direction the country and the world were taking during Biden's term.

There's been a few protests for women's rights, Palestine, anti-fascism/anti-Nazism, anti-deportation of illegal immigrants, etc., but now the rest of Americans see all those protesters as the unemployed buffoons with nothing better to do that they've always been.

The vibe of it all, at least from what I’m getting from it here in swamp-germany is very placid compared to say: The antifa Riots in Portland, kavanaugh appointment or BLM movement.

could be utterly wrong about this from this side of the pond but it almost feels like the American left rolled over and gave up for the most part.. energy spend.

That's exactly what it is right now. The time to protest was at the polls, back in November. But the rest of the country really doesn't want what they're selling. We're all more or less fine with Trump and all the insane shit that he's doing. We all learned that there's no point in protesting *now.*

Fun fact, the same was observed with the women's march. This year's women's march in DC was lukewarm and a giant non-story, where the women's march in 2017 was one of the biggest political protests ever in the US.

I am definitely not fine with a lot of what’s going on but I’m also not going to spend mental energy on things out of my control. The admin will do illegal and unconstitutional things and nothing will be done about it. Se la vie. Hopefully something positive comes out of it even if I can’t see what that is. Consider me an apathetic spectator at this point.

A lot of people spent a lot of the 2016-2020 timeframe enraged about the fuckery, motivated to do something that might impact what was going down (for better or worse). Then spent 2020-2024 hopeful that people would be held responsible. The trump re-election pushed them to apathy. Not surprising really.

Democrats also found out that they can't just bully people into voting for their candidate because "it's the morally right thing to do" and that others don't share their same vision for the future of the country.

Don't be so dramatic. You spend way too much time on reddit, don't you?
Tariffs hurt everyone. You don't have to be a genius or even liberal to know that. You just need a very basic understanding of econ 101.

We'll be just fine. When Trump was running in 2016 the economists and political establishment GAURANTEED US that the economy was going to collapse under his leadership and we'd usher in a wave of recession and that all hell would break loose. Every media station and paper in the country ran this story for months. We'll it didn't happen, did it. Not only did the economy not collapse, it arguably was booming. And no, I am not a Trump fan boy, or even supporter. Reactionary reddit garbage, that's all your comment is. You don't have a memory and you don't have any idea how the economy works or what tarrifs will lead to. 99% of the citizens of this country, including myself have no idea. The only thing we know for sure about the economy is that the economists, like the pollsters, will always get whatever they predict wrong.

Sure but around 2017 you also had some pushback on that front initially. Like with the Columbia remigrants recently..I see this is part of trumps (economic) negotiation strategy in getting the best deal for the US. Which won’t always work out but for the most part probably will.

What amazes me is how the US media, and then by extension the public, make tariffs this huge, all encompassing focus. There is health crisis that is completely crippling the country. It's unprecedented, the worst on the entire planet. It's costing trillions upon trillions, making everyone miserable, destroying generations. 1 in 5 KIDS are obese. 1 in 36 are getting autism... it used to be 1 in 10,000. Cancer is exploding. Diabetes alone cost the US 400 billion in one year and that number grows.

This human cost and this economic cost is magnitudes above any other issue, and by far. When are people going to wake up and evaluate where our priorities should be? Instead we decide to indulge ourselves in this partisan bullshit, worrying whether a dishwasher is going to cost $100 more because of some tarrifs that apply for 4 years max. This is why RFK is so popular, because for some reason, he is (despite what the pharmaceutical owned media tells you) the only sane one in the room.

This is different. Elon is taking over critical government systems (like the treasury) that no one like him should have possession over. He's basically staging a coup. And no, I'm not exaggerating - if everything that happened in the US over the past couple of days occurred in *any* foreign country, we would all be describing it as a coup.

RFK is popular because so much of the USA is uneducated and has a bias against science, medicine, and vaccines. Dude couldn't even respond directly to Bernie Sanders if he (RFK) believed that vaccines didn't cause autism.

I would agree that we're paying too much attention to random bullshit when there are more pressing issues. However, to counter what you said, people care more about alienating trans people and removing DEI than improving their own financial situation. They all votes for Trump, who has done jack shit to improve people's financial wellbeing and lower the cost of groceries.

K, but that has no bearing on trumps foreign economic tactics. The DOGE department is solely focussed on internal bureaucracy

To be fair, he’s only been in office for a few weeks now
