Anjunabeats is pleased to release the new single from progressive duo gardenstate, ‘Surreal’, their first original on the label.

A titan of progressive trance, Sweden’s Marcus Schössow cut his teeth in the late 2000’s. He’s released music on Coldharbour Recordings, Spinnin’ Records and Tone Diary, and was tapped by the legendary Axwell & Ingrosso (Swedish House Mafia) for remixes of ‘Sun Is Shining’ and ‘More Than You Know’.

Marcus is also no stranger to the Anjunafamily, releasing a one-off EP on Anjunadeep in 2010 under his ‘1985’ alias.

gardenstate came about after a chance meeting between Marcus and American producer Matthew Felnerand in 2008. The pair started creating music together last year and have already supported the likes of Eric Prydz, Sander Van Doorn, Ferry Corsten, Gabriel & Dresden and Mat Zo. They’ve released on imprints like Yotto’s Odd One Out, Joris Voorn’s Spectrum and Cosmic Gate’s Wake Your Mind.

One of two gardenstate tracks featured on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats Volume 15 compilation, ‘Surreal’ is just the tip of the iceberg. Expect much more from gardenstate on Anjunabeats in the year ahead.

Pretty nice and laid-back. I guess the vocals work nice with the track, but I wonder if maybe it would've worked without them.

Sounds like something which could easily be played at Boiler Room - and that's not a bad thing! I actually find this one rather enjoyable

I honestly had no idea Marcus Schössow is the man behind gardenstate. I've listened to this track a couple of times now and I love it more and more with each listen.

This works really well. Nice kinda winding down feeling of this.

It doess suffer a little bit of the deadlifelessbeatsyndrome but overall it works despite of that. The vocal must be from a house track from awhile back ?

Yup, Gardenstate is Marcus Schössow and Matthew Felner, a guy from the US.
And for some trivia, some of their upcoming Anjunabeats releases were produced at Paavo's Finland studio which is in a nice countryside shack - iirc Gabriel & Dresden and Super8 & Tab participated too in this writer's retreat. Something similar happened with Sunny Lax, Sheeverz was written there and the title refers to something Paavo's son said when he was feeling cold :D

Here's a bit from Anjunabeats Vol. 15's notes from another one of the tracks:

Back to the track, gardenstate have been one of my favourite artists this year so needless to say Surreal is very nice. :)

This is pleasant albeit a bit underwhelming.
