Been discovering Lil Dicky's works recently. What an amazing rapper. Yeah, he's funny, innovative and all, but first and foremost he's a brilliant lyricist. Here's probably my favourite track of his.

Yeah it's an unbelievable track and for sure in my top 10. The energy and lyrics of Mos Def are something that actually astounds me in disbelief at how good it can be. Mathematics gotta be in the top 10 too, it's got everything right.

Here are my favs from Mos, in no particular order. Respiration is #1 of course.

This one's pretty similar to Respiration, at least thematically, and off the same album. Great lyrics from Def and Kweli.

This is just smooth, great flow.

Love the beat here. Nice video too.

This one is top 5 material.

First heard him rap this with Dave Chappelle in Dave's car. Great lyrics.

This one is just pure foreplay kind of a track.

I love how innovative this is. A rap song lasting more than an average extended mix in trance music, split into three different parts.

Pure smoothness again.

And now for something completely different. This sounds huge on a big sound system.

Recently a hip-hop style has been trending, "phonk." Odd name, but the music is really cool. It's more common in Soundcloud and certain Youtube playlists; in fact, I first found it through "dark trap" playlists.

Reanimation gotta be one of the most influential albums of my life, in terms of introducing me to new sounds at an early age and expanding my taste. It has rap, hip-hop, metal, electronic, industrial, breakbeats experimental, turntablism, instrumental... I had never even heard the idea of a 'remix' before this album. Massive influence for a 13 year old. The hip-hop is sweet on this and probably why I love the genre so much today.
