THE RECORD AS YOU DON’T KNOW
THE STORY SO FAR
THE STORY SO FAR
In 1999 Mauro Picotto and his staff worked around a record released the year after by Media
Records, titled “Komodo [Save A Soul]”, a massive and world-famous club hit.
This record, as everyone has known it, was actually not like that.
The first version produced didn’t have the “Save A Soul” choir but a tribal chorus taken from
the song “Sweet Lullaby” by Deep Forest, taken in turn from the ethnic track “Rorogwela”
sung by Afunakwa, a woman from Malaita (Solomon Islands).
The first version produced also featured a tribal flute solo, just after the end of the choir.
This first version produced was not cleared by Deep Forest for release due to the use of the
tribal chorus featured on their “Sweet Lullaby”.
Needless to say that everyone at Media Records was disappointed for this refusal so then
Mauro Picotto was forced to opt for another solution, the “Save A Soul” choir, produced and
filed under copyright together with Deep Forest.
After that the first version was destined to be trashed. Very few copies on vinyl and on cd
were privately printed before its removal. To this day no copies exist anymore.
The first version, that beta version, that unofficial version, has gone lost forever.
Along the years the several efforts to recover in any way that lost treasure have met the
contrast and the lack of collaboration by some people to which the following is dedicated.
After 25 years a private producer, named Giovanni Erata, has adopted all his skills and his
strength to make relive that lost treasure at Casa Mia Studio in Casaletto Vaprio (CR), Italy.
He has produced a faithful reconstruction of the first version entitled “Komodo [Rorogwela]”.
Enjoy the magic of this special reconstruction. You won’t be able anymore to do without it.
Music belongs to everyone and it must reach everyone.
